I have Myclonic Epilepsy, will this effect my career plans?

Are there any rules or laws that would keep me from becoming a dentist? Im about to attend school full time to pursue a career as a dentist but i was recently diagnosed with mild myclonic epilepsy and i dont take any medication for it because of the suicidal warning for them and my doctor said if i get pregnant my baby will most likely have a cleft lip. Will this effect my career plans?

I think you should research more about myoclonic epilepsy and try out different doctors. I take medication and was told that i might have a deformed baby if i am taking certain medications. I can have a baby with the right information and with a very carefull pregnancy coordinated by my neurologist and gynecologist. About your career everything will be fine as long as your take carefull procedures while studying. No drinking and no all night cramming for tests. You will have to get a good nights rest. So you MUST sleep and study in proper available time. Try to controll your stress level. Its not good if you stress over a test. So try some breathing techniques to relax. Take a minute and rest before an exam. Basically learn some way that helps you deal with stress and relaxes you out. So as you can see everything is normal and nothing can stop you from studying and pursuing your career. But i do strongly recommend you take your meds. You should have a long talk with your neurologist. And if your not comfortable with him look for another. Try writing down your worries before your doctors appointment so you can be sure to ask all the things your worried about. So my ending is this. The only difference is that you may need to rest more then the other students. No big deal really. Oh and by the way, all medicine has all that suicidal stuff on it. Its very rare and if your carefull on your meds nothing should happen. You can ask anyone that suffers from any disease may it be, diabetes, heart condition, epilpsy etc...and all the meds say that! Your doctor can tell you that. So study, enjoy life and pleaseee...research more on myoclonic epilepsy and their meds. You will feel much better after you get your facts straight.
Much love and i hope i helped:)

I have full blown grand mal seizures and aside from the license suspension I am considered able to work. Although it is embarrassing and people poke fun at work.

If you were on meds it wouldn't. I have been on Keppra for about 6-7 months due to myoclonic seizures without any symptoms. It has been great.
