Can epilepsy ever recover?

Can an epileptic person recover from the disease? Any pills available?

I'm epileptic @ 26. Some recover over time. Some don't. I have friends of both types - some have recovered, some haven't.

Medicine wise, there's thousands of medications, and I've taken just about all of them. Which ones do you need ?

Hi Emily,
First an fore most Epilepsy is not a disease, the best way to describe it as is a defect in the brain caused by a short circuit which send small electrical shocks through the brain from one part to another, this can be caused by scar tissue in the brain caused from a large bump to the head. Many people who have suffered from this problem never knew they had it until much later in life. My wife has this problem which was caused by an accident many years ago as does my brother in law. These attacks can be kept under check by daily medication to ward the attacks off but nothing will ever cure them completely as although some may be able to opt for some surgery but this is seldom done. In my wife's case she has been lucky of late an has gone for many months without the problem some people can go years. Almost two years ago I was a victim of a head on collision, the driver who caused the accident died from his injuries. It was put down to him suffering from an epileptic fit at the wheel, I myself am still trying to recover from my own injuries even now. Such is life, one thing it taught me was life is to short to worry about this an I do not attach any blame on the other driver even though I know he should not have been driving at all but being angry will not make anything better nor will it bring him back.

There have been some people who have recovered completely. it still is considered to be a chronic disease but there are many medications to treat it.
Epilepsy can be totally controlled in most cases with medication. Mine is with only a few petite seizures every once in a while. You can have a long and productive life even with epilepsy.

yes there are pills available. you have to remember to take them everyday. i have it . i have also stopped taking my medicine again . i have done it before and then needed the medicine again. i have done this with out my doctors knowledge. i have not that i know of had anymore of them. i sure wish my husband was here with me to keep an eye on me. i only hope that i do not have them anymore until he returns to me with me . i got them late in life and some times only have them once a year. i have not had one yet this year.

u should see a neurologist. i have epilepsy. u can't be cured but u can definitely live a fine life with it especially if u find a good medication for yourself. now everyone is diff but u probably won't have seizures often with the right medication. popular medications are depakote, lamictal and keppra. if u need to talk more i'm online on aim or yahoo messenger and my screename is TheBTPYoda. hang in there.

Yes bless you, go and see you doctors. my sister was told she would have to spend life on the sick cause of her epulepsy, although thank god although she had them although the time previously, she hasnt had one for the past 15 years, go and see the doc, and i hope you will be ok too

Recovery does happen.

It is rare.

For most, the even electrical impulses of the brain must be brought into balance through outside help, generally drugs.

For many it is a lifetime imperative.
