Is it possible to stop having seizures but still have epilepsy?

Is it possible to stop having seizures but still have epilepsy?

I would think so. I was diagnosed with epilepsy over a decade ago and at one point went over a year without having one. Then they suddenly started again. Not having any for awhile simply means they are controlled for now.

Since there is no real "cure" for epilepsy (there are surgical things you can do that may help reduce them) you can never know for sure that it is gone. You could go ten years without a seizure, but it would only take one to show that they haven't all gone away.

You should see your Neurologist for all your questions about Epilepsy. It's a serious medical condition and you will get conflicting responses from unqualified people here. Be careful.

However to answer your question as best I can I will say: Sometimes. The problem with epilepsy is that it isn't an exact science. If you develop Epilepsy when you are young it is more likely you will outgrow it. It will go away on it's own. Then you can say that you no longer have epilepsy. But some people have abnormal brain activity all their lives on an EEG, even without suffering a seizure so they do still have epilepsy.

You didn't mention whether or not you are on medication. Some neurologists recommend that you go off your meds and see if the seizures come back. That is only a decision you should make with your neurologist.

Well, I'm epileptic and haven't had a seizure in 4 years.

The reason I'm still epileptic is because my brain is still different from a "normal" brain and needs medication to make sure that I stay seizure free. I will always be epileptic as long as there is a chance that I could have a seizure.

I don't know how old this person is, But my oldest son had epilepsy when he was young . He had petit mal seizures and he stopped having seizures when he was around ten.
