If a person that has epilepsy can they get a disabled permit to park in a disabled parking spot?

disabled parking

First, several (if not all) states prohibit people with epilepsy from driving.

This is because when we have seizures, we can black out and/or loose control of our motor capabilities. It would create a temporarily dangerous situation for us, passengers, other people on the road and passerby. So, we cannot drive our own cars.

And second. a parking permit is issued only if somebody has permanent or long-term mobility difficulties because of their disability.

As mentioned earlier. when not having a seizure, many people with epilepsy have good motor coordination. We do not need a wheelchair, walker, braces...etc.

So having to park close to the curb would be time wasting. We would not need it, like we, if not deaf/hearing impaired would need a hearing aid.

We are perfectly physically capable of waking to the curb from where ever who drives us (including public transit) parks. It is not an appropriate accommodation for us, something which DMV would realize.

But we can potentially get a free/discounted disability bus pass from the area public transit agency *potentially good for multiple years--depending on individual transit agency rules*. This is because we MUST use public transit (due to not being able to drive).

Unlike somebody who can choose to use public transit or must use it until they have saved up enough money for their own car, we lack such options.

And it is easier to live in an area with extensive public transit options--as opposed to having friends/family members drive you. I attempted the latter. And it did not work because I had to work around their schedules.

Plus in the case of my family, my going out (including work) was cast as a 'treat' as opposed to something which I needed for attaining economic/social self-sufficiency. Living within distance of public transit is much better. I can go where I want when I want.

A free/discounted (semi-)yearly pass is an example of an appropriate transit accommodation for us.

PEOPLE--the person with epilepsy would be the passenger..

If a person with epilepsy has been siezure free fro a while (usuallu 6 months-1 year) than they would not normally qualify for a permit...Unless they previously had severe seizures taht caused brain injury.......

it depends on the severeity of the seizures--if you only have a fedw a year and they are not triggered by physical exertion---probably not..

if you only have 'absence' seizures occassionally--probably not

but if they are frequent and severe enough yes

with the reaosning being--you may be fine walking into teh store--but have a seizure while there--and be fatigued from teh seizure---

or you may want to limit the possibility of having a seizure in the parking lot--especially in bad weather---which others shoudl appreciate--because they may be inconvenienced if they can't move tehir car until you recover....etc...

MOST states allow people with epilepsy to drive if they can prove they have been seizure free for 6 months. If they are seizure-free than they cannot get a disability parking permit. If they are not seizure-free, than yes they can get a permit for that the person who drives them about to use.

If a person is epileptic then they should not be driving! Much less looking for permits to hint they are even worse. Think of others. The special parking is for ones that it is hard to walk. You should be out getting all the exercise you can. It is more likely to decrease your spells.
Dark Chocolate, daily -half a serving - decreased my spells by 90%!

i never heard of it i heard of it like older people and over weight people and people who drives other disable people around who cant walk talk and cant do anything for themselves but i don't know if epilepsy people can even drive people the medicine is not really sure its gonna like work successfully all day so its best for someone to drive you .

Yes. There are many diseases and disorders that make one eligable for a disabled parking permit, including cancer, AIDS, and epilepsy, among many others.

No, The purpose of the permit is to those who have either limited or no walking capabilities

I don't think a person can drive if you have the kind that has seizure's.Check where you get a permit and ask them.

Do people with epilepsy know when theyre about to have a seziure? Can they even drive?

im pretty sure ppl with epilepsy cant drive

No.

i don't think people with epilepsy are allowed to drive are they ?

Probably, I cant see why not.
