Epilepsy and schitzophrinia? |
is there a link between epilepsy and schitzophrinia There is a strong association between epilepsy and schizophrenia. People with epilepsy had 2.5 times the risk of schizophrenia as the general population. Thats fairly low. Most people with epilepsy probably arent in danger of schizophrenia. The risk is small. But its still there. Study is still trying to "address"wether or not schizo risk is higher for epilepsy patients who experience psychosis during or after siezures. All in all...it is VITAL to maintain a HEALTHY way of living. good eating patterns. excercise, water, fresh air, stress free etc etc etc. my best. epilepsy is when the brain overloads people should avoid caffeine and others stimulants and too much heat also focusing something to long like ps2 should be avoided..schizophrenia is change of moods frequently u should see a doc if you have symtons good luck.. No two specific conditions, epilepsy is a neurological condition caused by electrical discharges in the brain. Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder cause unknown, but can be brought on by stress, drink, drugs and some familial Links, ie, if both parents have the condition you have a 30% chance of developing it, if one parent has it its about 10%. Back in the 1930's people with epilepsy were treated in mental health hospitals, thankfully that's now changed. Treatments for both conditions are different as well. 30 years work in mental health yes i think so, i have epilepsy, and have suffered with a schitzophrenic episode a few years ago schizophrenic is when someone heres noises or sounds in the head epilepsy is a nerve in the brain that just triggers a fit no theres not a link Not sure about an actual link, but people diagnosed with epilepsy have about a 2.5 times greater risk of going on to develop schizophrenia than the general population. Which, incidentally, is still very a very small risk. |
