Is epilepsy serious problem? Is it hereditory? |
Is it okay to marry the sibling of a person with controlled epileptic problem. Thanks I have epilepsy that is also controlled by medicine.....Epilepsy can be a very serious problem but it varies from person to person. As for being hereditary? The risk of the epileptic person's children also having epilepsy is small. If one of the parents has epilepsy, the risk is about 4%. So it is possible for epilepsy to be passed on to children. And I don't see anything wrong with marrying someone who has a sibling with controlled epilepsy. If you love the person enough it shouldn't matter. And I want to add in response to the comment Brony made about how people with epilepsy are not allowed to get a drivers license is absolutely false. it just depends on how long you have gone without having a seizure. And yes I do have a drivers license. Source(s): I have had epilepsy for about 10 years. epilepsy is controlled with medication, without it, it can be a problem, people with epilepsy are not even allowed to own a drivers license, not sure if its hereditory though There are many different types of epilepsy. Some are more serious than others because while some may be controlled with medication, others may not. In some cases epilepsy is hereditary, having a blood test will be able to figure that out (I think, that's what they did in my family and found it wasn't hereditary). It is fine to marry a sibling of someone who has epilepsy! it is even fine to marry someone who does have epilepsy because there are lots of perfectly normal people who have epilepsy. You shouldn't not marry someone just because of their sibling! I for one want to get married even though my brother has uncontrolled epilepsy! It is really not a problem and if you have a problem with someone just because of their brother or sister then you really don't love them and shouldn't be getting married anyway. If you are going to have kids with this person and are not sure if it is hereditary or not I suggest you try genetic consoling - this helps figure out the risks if it is hereditary so you can both make a decision on what to do. But if neither of you actually have epilepsy it is very unlikely for your kids to have it. My older brother has uncontrolled epilesy among other mental disabilities. .yes epilepsy can be but if medication is taken right and follow up with doctors regular bases you can live happy an enjoy life. This can be passes on to other generations it all depends on what kind of epilepsy you have and what cause it. |
