Can the extra estrogen in my birth control cause weight gain?

I had my doctor switch my birth control about 3 or 4 months ago because I was having really bad cramps on the old one. She put me on one that she said had more estrogen that she said would help with cramps and my breasts being sore around my period. I was around 135 then and I'm now about 155. I don't want it to seem like I'm just putting the blame on the birth control, but I really haven't had any differences in my eating habits or my exercising habits. Did the birth control cause this? And if I switch back to the other brand will it be easy to loose the extra weight?

Any birth control can cause you to gain weight. When I was on it I gained over 60 lbs in about 6 months and I was the same way. I actually had to go off of birth control because of excessive weight gain, migraine headaches, nosebleeds and I would now and then pass out. It was all the birth control. As soon as I went off of it I dropped the weight back off in about 7 months and all the other symptoms went away. I never changed anything in my diet. I do know though that it is the extra estrogen that you are receiving. It kinda tricks your body into thinking it is pregnant so you don't release any eggs. That's why too that your period can either stop or only last for about a day or two. I hope this helps!
