How do estrogen and Progesterone affect the uterus?

Progesterone is named this because you can break the word down into pro - gestation (-one at the end comes from it being a hormone)

So in english, the progesterone makes the endometrium (lining or the uterus) ready for a fertilized egg. So looking at the picture, we see progesterone skyrocket right after ovulation. Estrogen is there more or less to keep you sane, this is the happy hormone, but also effects the uterus and getting it ready to get you knocked up each month. Estrogen is also responsible for the development of the uterus and vagina.

Estrogen lays down the initial uterine lining. Progesterone thickens the existing lining.
