I was told i had fibroids in my uterus? |
i have been pregnant 4 times have 3 living children and i'm only 24 yrs old. went to dr. tuesday because i've been having pain with a lot of bleeding. and he checked me and said i had fibroids. he wants me to come back in 2 weeks for sonogram to see if i need hysterectomy. has anyone this young had one done and been okay with hormones and stuff Get a second opinion. This is too young unless it's really necessary. I bet it was a male doctor too. I had fibroids at my 28. I was pregnant with huge fibroids. My baby girl was born at my 30 weeks of pregnancy as I couldn't hold her for more. You can get fibroids at any age, but before getting a hysterectomy do get a second opinion and do ask a lot of questions. If you have a male doctor, he will probably tell you that it won't change a thing (apart from not being able to have children), but it will. Sex for one will not be the same (you won't feel orgasms the same way...). Insist on leaving your ovaries and "only" removing your uterus - you'll have a lot less hormone problems that way. His suggestion seems appropriate. My mom had a fibroid and found out at about your age and was told she could never have kids. Then she got pregnant and had me at the age of 25, got pregnant again and miscarried and then got pregnant again and had my brother at 27. Years later she experienced extreme discomfort and heavy bleeding. But I'm talking heavy, she was going through super heavy absorbency tampons every half hour AND through a heavy pad. She went to the doctor and found out her fibroid started to grow and had reached the size of a tennis ball. She had to have a hysterectomy. |
