Has anyone had a hysterectomy because of uterine fibroids, severe bleeding & cramps, long painful periods,?

painful pelvic pain throughout the month? also, without any cancer & negative biopsies? thanks

oh, i'm 39 yrs old and do not want kids!

Yes and since doing so, life has never been better and contrary to what some believe it does not effect your sex life. Having said that I already had my 3 children, so you may want to consider that if you have not started a family.

Edit: keep your ovaries because removing them will put you in menopause.

Well.....funny you ask that. It depends on a couple things. Your age, if you have children already, and the severity of the Fibroids and bleeding.
It is the last resort a doctor will use, and if your not an older woman who's had all her kids, he/she will probably want to just try to alleviate the severity of the symptoms. (birth control pill or other med's) A hysterectomy is a major operation and irreversible, that is why they don't do them unless absolutely necessary.
I know this because I was in the ER not too long ago with massive bleeding etc. I am filled with Fibroids, one is the size of a tennis ball, 10cm. I am older, kids grown and was told by two doctors, I need a hysterectomy.
But thanks to the state of the country, lost job with one days notice, I now have no means for health care, and don't qualify to get any. So I have to wait till it becomes a major emergency, which in time it will.
So if you have means to see the doctor, and try options they have told you about, that would be the thing to do. There are med's to help if it's the pain and bleeding that's hard to handle.
It also depends where the Fibroid's are. In the Uterus, or outside the Uterus that they determine if surgery is needed. But I have read 70% of women find relief once they've gone through with it. (sure wish I could, so I feel for you believe me!! Do what ever you can. )

My mama. She had exactly what you said.
