Are fibroids painful?

They can be very painful.

Some women experience abdominal pain, sever bleeding, swelling of the legs, aching back, fatigue from the loss of blood which the fibroid consumes. light headed. etc.

and some women don't even know that they have them and never cause any type of pain or symptoms.

If you think that you may have fibroids get it checked as soon as possible.
The longer you wait the bigger it will grow and eventually it will begin to die. causing even more pain.

(I actually went into false labor in which my cervix started dilating, and my body tried to birth it so to speak. I had no choice but to have an emergency hysterectomy)
