Uterine Fibroids?

Does anyone have uterine fibroids and been told they need a hysterectomy?

Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterus. Sometimes they can grow quite large (like a melon) but are usually much smaller (like a grape or walnut).

They can cause you to have irregular or heavy periods, and if that is a problem for you, then hysterectomy is the answer.

Sometimes, surgeons will remove fibroids and keep the uterus intact, but that is reserved for small tumors in women who want to have babies.

there are three women in my family that had to get a hysterectomy because of the same problem but it depends on how sever it is
I had uterine fibroids and had a hysterectomy last summer. What do you want to know about it? I can tell you, that 6 months later, I'm glad I had it done.
I had uterine fibroids and I ended up having to get hysterectomy. I decide to have done because I got tired of the heavy bleeding and the pain I go every month when I have my period. I think it was a good choice because after having the hysterectomy I found that I had endometriosis as while this was part of my pain to. So far my life have been so much better.
I had a hyst because of fibroids!! I was 44 yrs old. so glad I had it done. It was the best thing. Never have to worry about the monthly stuff. If you are considering a hyst check with Dr to see if your ovaries can be left. I still have mine and have not had any problems with pre menopause. I'm now 48.
I have some small ones and will be speaking to my doctor on Friday about it. I've done some research though and there is a new procedure that sounds a lot better than a hysterectomy. They put a little plastic bead into the vein that "feeds" the fibriod. That blocks the flow of blood and starves the fibroid making it shrink down a lot. They say it's pretty safe with some cramping for a few days after the procedure. Worth checking out anyway.
