There is no known reason why fibroids grow in the uterus. There's no way to prevent them. But if they don't cause you any problems, then you don't have to do anything with them. Most fibroids are harmless. But there are cases where fibroids do cause problems. I had a fibroid that causes me to bleed heavily during my period. The doctor I was going to put me on birth control, but after a year of different brands and doses, there was no relief in site. He did a couple different procedures on me, and he claimed that everything was going to be ok, but I was still bleeding so bad. So after that he told me I would have to have a hysterectomy. I was only 24 years old, single, no children, and that was not an option to me. So I went for a second opinion and found a doctor that could take the fibroid out and leave everything intact. That was the best thing I ever did. It's been 3 1/2 years since I had the operation and everything has been ok since. No problems. But before my operation, my doctor told me that there is always the possibility that I could get another fibroid. There really is no "cure" or ways to prevent them, but there are ways to treat them.
