Know anything on uterine fibroids?? |
Does anyone out there have or know anything about uterine fibroids?? If so, what would u recommend, surgery (removal) or any medicines?? Uterine Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that are in or around a woman's uterus. To determine the best solution to remove them, I would suggest that woman gets an ultrasound first to see the size, number, and location of the fibroid(s). Then depending on the size and location, their GP or OB/GYN can give them the best possible solution for getting rid of them. If they are big and in the way of other organs or if they are causing the woman many problems and complications, a doctor may suggest a surgery such as a myomectomy or hysterectomy. But if they are small, and they are not causing pain, heavy bleeding, or other symptoms, then their doctor could try shrinking them thru embolization or other invasive methods. Source(s): http://www.webmd.com/hw/uterine_fibroids... Eh? never herd of it Inter-uterine fibroids don't always require surgery. This would depend entirely on their size, and the discomfort they are causing. They can get as large as footballs, making the patient appear pregnant, or they can cause pain during sex, or particulary uncomfortable periods. A good GP will be able to adves, or refer you to a specialist. I don't know of any medications that can help, other than pain killers. Smaller fibroids are often present in many women, and go completely unnoticed. Whatever the OB/GYN has suggested. My sister had these. She ended up having a Hysterectomy. She did the medication thing for YEARS all to no avail. Then decided the PAIN wasn't worth it any more. Then had the surgery. I was led to believe that surgery was the only option. I never realised that you could get medication. Does the medication shrink the fibroids I wonder. I would have thought that someone with this condition would need to speak with the specialist dealing with the case. He or she would be able to advise the best course of treatment to suit the person with the fibroids. Often health issues and age are a reason to opt for medication rather than surgery. So do ask. |
