Is it a painful to operation to get your uterus remove with the fibroids in it.? A hysterectomy can be done a couple of different ways. Either way there is initially pain when you awaken from the surgery but as another answerer said, get a morphine pump if you can. That allows you to self medicate (but not overdose) on the pain medication going direclty into your blood stream. this is opposed to taking pills because there is a delay until those kick in. If you get a vaginal hysterectomy (Probably not the right term) there are very small incisions in your abdomen and they bring your uterus and cervix out through your vaginal opening. The recovery from this can be shorter. However, depending on how big the fibroids are, sometimes they cannot do it this way. Another method is to have the uterus removed through a slightly longer incision in your lower abdomen, similar to a c-section. From my experience if you are having bad symptoms from the fibroids and do not want more or any children it is worth doing. But you don't need to have fibroids or your uterus removed if you don't have any symptoms. A GREAT support site with great information is http://www.hystersisters.com/ Source(s): http://www.hystersisters.com/ and my own experience with fibroids and hysterectomy surgery All operations are painful. I would think it would hurt to get anything removed! you'll be put to sleep for the operation, but when you wake up...HELL YES IT HURTS personal experience I had it done when I was 25....It wasn't as bad as I had expected. Ask for a morphine pump for when you wake up. You'll be fine. |
