Fibromyalgia and Physio Therapy? |
I have fibromyalgia and my doctor has been sending me for physio therapy to help with pain. Ihoneslty dont think its going to help. I was wondering if anyone that has fibromyalgia has gone to physio? If so did it actually help? The physical therapy may help stretch your muscles, but keeping up your own exercise program will definitely help. I have had fibromyalgia since the early 90s and have gone through various phsical therapy regimens. I have found that if I continue taking care of myself by eating right and exercising to my level (I have found a great workout designed for people with fibro and chronic fatigue, e-mail me for info), I can control the pain as best as I can. I don't got to physical therapy, but I do exercise and it helps immensely. My joints ache less and my whole body feels like it can move again. The soreness subsides as does the morning stiffness. My whole family has fibromyalgia and we all exercise. Sounds crazy but it helps. Supposedly helps rid the body of the inflamation that causes it and the endorphins help with the pain, too. My Sister is afflicted with Fibro...I do know when she was in Phys Therapy she functions much better. It is no longer available for her so she is just on medication. Good Luck I think the exercising and diet is critical for better movement and an almost normal life. Good Luck to you I am not sure what physio therapy is, but I did some physical therapy and it was quite helpful. It was hard at first, but It made me feel better, it educated me and helped me understand the source of some of the pain, and that took away the fears that I had. At the time I did PT I did not know that I had fibromyalgia. I was really frightened about what was happening to me. I had been diagnosis with OA, but that didn't make sense. I got the fibomyalgia diagnosis about 5 months after doing PT. I visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. That is where I got the diagnosis. They have a 3 week pain clinic that they recommend at St. Mary's Hospital. They recommend an integrative medicine approach. I have been on that particular healing path and find it helpful. I am going to hold off on the new FDA approved drug Lyrica. The drugs will always be there. Stretching and exercise helps me a lot. It turns the pain down a couple of notches. Hope this is helpful. |
