Does anyone have first hand experience living with fibromyalgia? i've been recently diagnosed and wanted real

people experiences, not "text book" or pamphlet answers... also no 'my sister's roomate's boyfriend's cousin's brother has it...

any help or advice would be great. thanks so much.
also, i've been on the mayo clinic web site. i know the whole eat right and exercise thing. i've heard everything from 'it's a death sentence' to 'you'll be just fine once you adjust' i just want to know what real people living with it actually go through. thanks again.

I don't think you adjust to Fibro, I sure haven't. I have good days and bad days. I take several meds to help with the pain. You will have to find whats right for you. The flair ups are the worse. Seems like nothing can control the pain when I have a flair up. I exercise on a treadmill. I found a used one for sale so I wouldn't have to spend a lot of $$$. I spend 30 min a day on it an use it whenever my legs flair up too. Don't know anything about any diet that is supposed to help. I do eat alot of carrots and yogurt.
Most of all find you a good Dr. One that listens and believes in Fibro. Alot of Dr don't believe in the diagnosis. So look carefully at your Dr. then make sure your pain is controlled.
Look around on Yahoo groups there are a few groups that are for Fibromyalgia and some that are for chronic pain sufferers. They can help with other questions you have and just be there to listen.
Good luck

Did you check Yahoo Groups for a group for people living with fibromyalgia? I bet they have great support there.

Aside from that, you can find resources at TFN http://www.fmnetnews.com/ , TNFA http://www.fmaware.org/site/PageServer, and your local hospital should be able to tell you where real life support groups are and how you can contact them.

Blessings!

The only thing I can tell you is my father was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and lived in pain for three years. Then he had his basement finished and while digging, to level dirt, to pour concrete they found a massive amount of chemicals in the ground right below his bedroom. Once it was all removed he was fine. I'm just saying, many times people are misdiagnosed. You may show all the signs of fibromyalgia, but it may be caused by something else. Just trying to give you a little hope, don't always settle on the opinion of a doctor. They have the degree, but they are human too, and make misdiagnoses more often than you can imagine.

i dont believe in fibromyalgia. i had it, was not diagnosed with it but i had pain for no reason, doctors refuse to believe in it, i went to the doctor over and over but they didnt wanna see me anymore. they already did all the tests they needed to do. i felt like i got run over by a truck. couldnt get out of bed. i wanted to die. throbbing pain all over my body. i didnt understand whats happening to me and why doctors cant help me.

are you suffering from any stress when this started? i learned that the more you let the disease take over you or control you, it gets worse. you need to join some type of martial arts class or class that will make you believe that your brain controls everything in your body and that learning how mind-body connection works, you will get over this thing that you are going thru. i know its hard but if doctors did all they can and have no clue whats wrong with you, its gotta be a mental thing. there's a a book called Freedom of Fybromyalgia. its helped me and it can help you. what have you got to lose.

you need to change your way of thinking and go to sleep tonite and wake up tomorrow with a positive attitue and believing that you are well and happy and get your mind off of the pain. it wont go away in a day but i will dissipate slowly. it worked for me, trust me it can work for you. but just make sure the doctor has ruled out all possibilities. if he has, then it is up to you to give up and take more drugs, or have hope that you can get over this thing thats taking over you and quit the drugs that you might be taking. you just need to be strong.

good luck!
