Why won't the dr's give my daughter pain meds for her fibromyalgia?

My daughter has severe pain and lies in bed all day almost every day crying from the pain. Yet her dr won't prescribe pain meds. Instead he has her taking , nuroytin, cymbalta, hydroxzine, trazadone, flexiril, and klonipin in large doses. When she tells him shes still in pain it seems like he just increases the dosages. she has type 2 diabeties and takes insulin and metformin for this she also has hepititus c. She is no longer able to work due to the pain. she is a Registered Nurse. And knows she has a right to be treated for pain, but to no avail.

She needs to find a doctor who knows what the heck they are doing!
Please follow this link and ask for a good fibro doc in your area for your daughter. Read the page and follow the instructions. Please be patient Betsy has fibro herself and may be having a bad day:

One thing both you and your daughter need to know is, pain meds are not going to completely do away with her pain, they will simply make her better able to handle the pain.

People with fibro generally get better if they change their diets, lifestyle and yes even how they think. Meds are not the only thing she needs to work on. Those who refuse to change just get worse. Please read through my blog on yahoo 360 for things I have found have helped me.

this is the newest findings in autoimmune disorders and fibro

this shows that a subset of fibro is a autoimmune disease.

I have heard that pain medication doesn't actually help the pain itmakes it worse!

Many doctors feel that since it is a disease one has for life, that pain meds are not the answer. A person's body becomes accustom to the pain meds and requires higher and higher doses to help, even though it will not ever completely get rid of the pain. High doses of pain meds over a long period of time, causes addictions and serious side effects. The person is then worse off, and still in pain.

Studies have shown that regular exercise, such as swimming is the best treatment for fibromyalgia and that the more inactive a person becomes, the worse the pain gets.

Find a new doctor or a pain specialist, some doctors will rx pain meds for this, mine does in small doses and we find what works for me, some days there isn't anything else that helps, also ask her doctor about ultram or tramadol (they are the same drug either with or without tylenol) but they run much less chance of dependence, and don't produce as much as a euphoric feeling, and have been helpful to some people with FMS.

Find a new doctor who is willing to explore other options with you even if its not pain meds. I have had some luck with a few supplements the two that have helped me are 5-htp (you can get at a drugstore) and corvalen (d-ribose) you can get this at a healthfood store or online.

I know everybody says to exercise and everything will be ok, granted when I feel better I do try and get up and moving more and it does help with muscle pain, even if its just a walk, but this doesn't seem to make a great difference exercise or not for my joint pain, which seems to be my biggest problem. Good Luck!
