I filed for disability but got denied. I am 16 and I have Fibromyalgia.?

I cant afford my medicine and I can barely get through school any advice to help me get disablity? Its hard enough not to relate to anyone cause ive never met anyone my age that has it. I just cant stand to be miserable anymore.

I also have Fibromyalgia, so I can relate to your suffering. Social Security Disability benefits are based on a person's working years prior to becoming disabled. At your age, there is no work-history, and therefore, no benefits. Did your parents have a Health Insurance Policy that offered coverage for a disabled child? That is a different scenario.

What I would suggest is for you to contact the National Fibromyalgia Association, 2121 Towne Centre Place, Suite 300, Anaheim, CA 92806, or http://www.fmaware.org, which I believe has a "Contact Us" link.

Also, do as much reading on Fibromyalgia as you can from libraries and book stores. Some books have excellent resource-lists in them. Your best way to deal with the varying symptoms is to understand what aggravates them, so you can learn to NOT do those things, to the best of your ability. A web search will also find local Fibromyalgia Support Groups that you may want to explore. I haven't personally done that yet.

As for medication costs, ask your prescribing doctors for PPA applications. They are applications that you can fill out and send to the manufacturer of each drug that you find helpful to take. Each drug manufacturer has a program in which people who can't afford the drugs they make can apply to them to get them free directly from them. Your parent(s) and doctor(s) can team up to make that happen. Another program that works similarly is at www.NeedyMeds.com.

You may need to fight for what you need at a time when you least feel like it. It will be helpful if you can share your experiences with the people around you whom you think would be willing to make your daily efforts a little easier. But try not to be a regular "kvetch" (complainer).

i'm 42 with osteoarthritis of the lower spine and both hips and a broken vertebrae and degenerative disc disease. and got denied for the past 5 years so you are what like a minute old?
you need to go to the website for Fibromyalgia and see what they suggest for a healthy way to eat, how much sleep do you need and stay completely away from carbonated beverages and caffeine of any kind....
your diet can help maintain your symptoms. check into these websites and find a support group
more people than you think have the same thing so dont think you are the lone ranger and remember there is always someone out there who is worse off than you are

YOU NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR THAT CAN HELP YOU BESIDES GIVING YOU MEDICATIONS. YOU NEED TO EXERCISE. yOUR PARENTS SHOULD BE SUPPORTING YOU ALSO! WHY WOULD ANYONE GIVE YOU DISABILITY WHEN YOU HAVENT EARNED A LIVING AND ARE STILL UNDER YOUR PARENTS CARE.

If you can't get disability based on fibromyalgia, make the system work for you, and apply for it based on depression and anxiety.

But I would join Lymenet if you have 'fibromyalgia' - fibro is a bogus diagnosis that doctors give all females with fatigue, joint pain, and other vague symptoms that they are unable to find reasons for. Practically everybody on Lymenet was told they had fibro, when they really had Lyme and multiple coinfections that simply defied traditional tests.

European Court of Justice ruling

And to kat you can get disability living allowance, its a tax-free allowance for children and adults and it is not based on whether you earn or not as my brother has been receiving it since he was a child along with attendence allowance (brother has cerebral palsy has trouble with walking, looking after himself and now is spending alot of time in a wheelchair).

You can't get it at your age. Your parents are responsible for you right now. Do you know what fibromyalgia is. I had it explain to me because my wife has it. If you look at say a piece of steak, and see the white grit like stuff running through it. that hardens and causes what you have. Exercises is the best medicine, just don't lay around and let it take you over. Asteroid pill may help, just don't make it a habit to stay on them. They will cause you to eat and the weight will increase. Just take the smallest doze possible, 0.5 mg twice a day for a week, then go off them for a couple weeks. If they helped go back on them for a week Etc. The best exercise in in a warm swimming pool and exercise your legs, That helped my wife more than anything. Just keep up the exercising. Did you try Social Security Disability or SSI (supplemental social security) are there any medicaid programs that will at least pay for your meds
