Is fibromyalgia progressive, and/or debilitating?

Is fibromyalgia progressive, and/or debilitating?

Technicallyt it is not progressive-as it is not known to cause further damage to the body.

My personal theory is that it is very slowly progressive for some people. My symptoms have continued to get slowly worse---Every year-I do less and less-and struggle more and more--

Although I can't locate the soure again-I read somewhere that it is possible that there is a problem with the brain chemical needed for bone and muscle growth and repair---

My theory is that the longerr this chemical isn't doing it's job-the worse the body gets---the docs just can't tell what's happening yet-they can't see the possible progression-

It's not progressive like muscular dystophy which tends to be fatal at a young age--the progression is less than the typicalprogression of arthritis-but is still there...

yes, it can be debilitating--I ahve been to thepoint that I wanted to amputate my legs because of the pain-woke up screaming at night and digging my nails into my stomach to distact myself from the FMS pain-used a wheelchair-been sedated for 3 days-felt like I was suffocating......

When i had a seizure it reversed rthe symptoms--about an 80% improvement-the symtpoms have been gradually returning since.....

With fibromyalgia at times it could seem that it is getting worse. The bad part about the disease is that it's hard to tell whether it's a symptom flaring up or if something is worsening. I would talk to you doctor about it and see what they think. They may need to up a dosage of your medicine or prescribe you something different for the time being to help with the symptoms.
As far as debilitating it depends on the person and the symptoms that you have with the fibromyalgia. Each person is different and pain tolerance has a lot to do with it. I know many people that can leave fairly normal lives as long as their medication is working. It may also vary daily on what you can do. Hope this helps and good luck with everything.
