Can fibromyalgia cause death?

i have a friend that is 14 and she is saying she is dying from fibromyalgia, is this possible??

No you can't. I have fibromyalgia and I'm not dying, although some days it feels like it. It doesn't deform your joints, it is just very painful.

...

No. Not directly from fibro. She may mean that the pain is extreme and she feels as if she is dying. If the doc told her that she can die from fibro, time to get a new doc.
She may have something else life threatening along with the fibro? Good luck to her.

It seems she is expressing figuratively, as she may be in agony. See-
"Fibromyalgia causes pain, stiffness, and tenderness of muscles, tendons, and joints without detectable inflammation.
Fibromyalgia does not cause body damage or deformity.
Fatigue occurs in 90% of patients with fibromyalgia.
Irritable bowel syndrome can occur with fibromyalgia.
Sleep disorder is common in patients with fibromyalgia.
There is no test for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia can be associated with other rheumatic conditions.
Treatment of fibromyalgia is most effective with combinations of education, stress reduction, exercise, and medications. "

Good luck for your friend!

No but some days it may make you feel like you want to die, just to be out of the pain. The suicide rate is high in people with untreated fibromyalgia.
I think you would benefit from reading the following page to understand more about how your friend is feeling. Read "the Spoons Theory" http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/the_sp...

Hi there~
I am so glad to see a friend of someone with Fibromyalgia posting here. Good friends are a huge benefit to anyone who has this horrible disease.
No, your friend is not and will not die from Fibromyalgia. She may feel so bady and be having so much pain that she us using that as a figruative statement like ~ It's killing me~ I have said that one before myself.
Fibromyalgia is chronic and can be debilitating. It is not fatal. To help you understand a bit, think back to the worst case of the flu you ever had. Remember that tired and down to the bone achiness you had? Now, take that and multiply it times 10 ~ that is what your friend it going through. Now, besides this aweful widespread body pain, you friend is also having other symptoms that can very from person to person. I will attach a link for you. You can research fibro a bit and understand what is going on with your friend.
Please remember, your friend needs you now more than ever. One of the worst things we face is the isolation from our friends and family. You must understand that though this person may not feel well enough to do many of things they used to , they still need and enjoy your friendship. Maybe they can not tollerate the seating at a movie theater any longer - but they would love you to bring over a movie and some popcorn. Help them think of creative new things they CAN do and new ways the may be able to adapt in order to do activities and go places you have always enjoyed.
Even with Firbo, we are still your same friends inside and we need your friendship more than ever.
Thanks again for taking the time and caring enough to find out about your friends disease.
Good luck to you both ~ Mysticmayr

technically, no--there was 1 reported case of a perosn that died froma related condition of CFIDS-but 99.99999999% of teh time it is not-

a number of people recover
a number of people manage
a number have life long significant disability

There is a concern of suicide for people that get overwhelmed by it.

It is believed that Fibromyalgia doean't actually casue physical development-but there is a theory that the Central Nervous System chemicals needed for bone and tissue repair are disordered-which could cause limited weakening of the body-but no where near fatal.

Considering that fibromyalgia is a bad thing for everybody as it is characterized by fatigue, widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, and multiple tender points - at least patients can be comforted by the fact that the disease does not progress and is not fatal. Everyday more research is done to find more effective ways to relieve pain and correct the sleep and chronic fatigue problems associated with this disorder. By working closely with their doctor, fibromyalgia patients can often find a treatment plan that is effective with this disease. With patience and understanding the life of a fibromyalgia patient can be comfortable and normal. In the meantime, hard work is being done to understand it everyday. Dealing with fibromyalgia can be in the form of natural elements like the very specific types of magnesium that can be a great help for your body to absorb more oxygen at the cellular level. This element also aids in the production of ATP which fuels your body and gives you the energy to do everyday things. Freedom from fatigue and muscle pain can also be achieved.
