How can I get relief from Pain due to Fibromyalgia?

Pain is getting unbearable inspite using up to 200 mg. of Lyrica twice a day which is a new drug for this type of pain. Is there anything else I can do or use to get some help.

This may not be the therapeutic dose of Lyrica for you. There are several analgesic options such as tramadol also known as Ultram or Ultracet, hydrocodone, etc. Tramadol is an analgesic(pain relief) not an SSRI(Selective Seretonin Reuptake Inhibitor). SSRI's are antidepressts and some antidepressants offer pain relief. See the following websites for explanations on these medications.

It depends on how long you have been taking lyrica. It took 6 weeks for me to adjust to it. I assume you mean you are taking 400 mg total. If not, make sure your doctor knows that 300 mg is the lowest therapeutic dosage. Also, try Tramadol with Tylenol when it is unbearable, that usually works for me. Another option, depending on your pain is a muscle relaxer like flexoril (cyclobenzaprine). Avoid taking anything when you don't need to or it will lose it's effectiveness.

Keep moving when you can. If you have access to a hot tub, use it! I bought a portable one for now and I use it every morning and before bed. It helps get moving in the morning and to wind down at night, too.

I have been working with a personal trainer at the local gym and that has helped alot! Another thing that has helped is making sure I get enough water every day (at least 99 ounces if you can) and eating a mostly whole foods diet.

The single most beneficial thing I have tried is bio-feedback and relaxation techniques. Stay as upbeat as you can and don't beat yourself up when you have a bad day. Take care of yourself on those days and don't self medicate with food. (1 lb of extra weight puts 4 lbs of extra pressure on your joints.)

Also, I find a lot of info here: http://www.healthcentral.com/chronic-pai...

Best of luck to you. Hang in there!!

I have read that there is now evidence fibromyalgia may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin D, which your body produces, the condition may be reversed by getting 30 - 90 minutes of full sun exposure each day. I am guessing that due to the pain, you haven't been outside much. If I'm right, you have nothing to lose. Some of your pain medication may come with directions to stay out of direct sunlight. It is up to you to choose. Do you want a treatment or a cure? Your doctor will seldom admit to you that a non-drug treatment will work. The pharmaceutical companies have doctors in their pocket!

I would look at alternative therapy,as from what I understand fibromalgia cant be cured ,only stabilised using medication etc.please correct me if I am wrong.
My friend has it and she finds that when I do reiki it really helps,as with any pain there is only so much tablets can do,and you need to find a way to get the brain switch from it,as I know from my own experiences pain is very wearing.Have you seen some at the hospital who runs the pain clinic.But I would try some alternative therapy's and see if they do help.

There are few things more frustrating than suffering from an illness or symptom that no one else understands. Take chronic fatigue syndrome for example. Many family and friends of the patient simply don鈥檛 understand why their loved one, who appears to get plenty of sleep, can complain of feeling tired all the time. It isn鈥檛 uncommon for loved ones to accidentally make feelings of depression worse by accusing the patient of overreacting or embellishing their symptoms. That can lead to resentment on the part of the patient and even a decreased interest in caring for their own health. If you suffer from one of the chronic fatigue diseases or have a loved one that does, there are some places you can find additional information about these little understood disorders.

* Your doctor
* Online medical resources
* Specific disease organizations

For the most personalized and patient-specific information the best person to talk to is your doctor. He or she will be able to give the patient and their families, with permission, the believed problem, what will help with the fatigue, and ways for others to respond to and treat the patient. Sometimes all it takes is for a loved one to hear the words from a health care professional鈥檚 mouth to really get the idea of what is happening with their friend or family member. It is also helpful for the patient and their family to have detailed instructions for caring for the affected person.

Glutathione: The Body's Master Antioxidant glutathione (GSH) is a small protein produced naturally in our cells when certain required elements are present. It functions both as an antioxidant and an antitoxin and is a major defense system against illness and aging. Our glutathione level actually indicates our state of health and can predict longevity. Although there are more than 60,000 published papers on the beneficial effects of glutathione replacement, it is still largely ignored by mainstream medicine. . In the near future the importance of glutathione will be widely recognized because it has the ability to boost the immune system and fight off the damage of free radicals on the cells.

Glutathione has been shown to slow down the aging process, detoxify and improve liver function, strengthen the immune system, and reduce the chances of developing cancer. Glutathione also works to help improve mental functions, increase energy, improve concentration, permit increased exercise, and improve heart and lung function - just to name a few.

Increasing Age and Other Factors Reduce the Body鈥檚 Production and Utilization of GSH. Research has shown that individuals who have low levels of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness. Research shows that GSH levels decline by 8% to 12% per decade, beginning at the age of 20. Levels of glutathione are further reduced by continual stress upon the immune system such as illness, infection, and environmental toxins. As we now know, a lowered immune system can bring about illness and disease. This is a ferocious cycle. While you need glutathione for a productive immune system, a weakened immune system hampers the production of glutathione.

Supplements Containing Glutathione Alone Will NOT Increase the Body鈥檚 GSH Levels. It is pointless to purchase supplements that merely contain glutathione, because the digestive system breaks down ingested glutathione and it will not be absorbed into your system. On the other hand, MaxGXL鈩?provides the proper nutrients needed to promote the body's own ability to manufacture and absorb glutathione. MaxGXL鈩?also aids in liver support by destroying environmental poisons helping the liver to function as the main production site and storehouse for glutathione.
