Fibromyalgia question...? |
Hi all, I'm 17 and my mom has been researching online for awhile now to find out what is wrong with me. I've been to the doctor numerous times but we can never seem to find out what is wrong. I have really sore muscles in my back on both sides, trouble sleeping, anxiety and I always seem to be very stressed out. Tonight, my mom was trying to find something for my back pain and she stumbled upon a website explaining fibromyalgia. I don't understand how therapy and anti-depressants can help my muscles? I have had symptoms of Fibromyalgia since I was 5. there are many teens/preteens diagnosed with it. you need to go see Rheumatologist to be diagnosed that will at least get you to know whats wrong with you. that way they can rule out anything else .I had it done they take a few viles of blood to see if you have Rheumatoid Arthritis .They ask questions and see what parts hurt you .Im sorry for your pain at your age all you should have to think about is grades and friends and maybe a bfriend but this is a good place to start I have friends that have it. I cannot really explain it to you, although I have included a link. Good luck. Yes. I'm 14 and I have fibromyalgia. When you're under 21 it's just called childhood fibromyaligia. it's kind of complicated but here you go. It's mostly a muscle condition. Anti- depressents and therapy are the most common treatments. I think that they help the most. Also do understand that there is no known cure. Also I would go see a doctor first to make sure it isn't something else. (BTW alot of doctors don't know what this is so pick a doctor wisely, I didn't get diagnosed until 4 years after I initally got it) Yes you can have it at 17. I'm 26 and have had it since i got a concussion when i was 20. There is no doubt that living with a chronic illness isn鈥檛 one of life鈥檚 most exciting joys. As a matter of fact, it can be one of the most trying experiences of a person鈥檚 life. Take that frustration and compound it by about a million and you have something close to the problems a person with fibromyalgia is forced to deal with day in and day out. This little understood disorder is difficult to diagnose, often misunderstood by the patient鈥檚 family and friends, and incredibly painful on top of all that. Each patient is different, but the understanding the basics of this disease is vital in providing support to affected people. You can definitely have fibro at 17. I was about 18 or 19 when I developed it. It's not entirely a muscle condition, it affects muscles, joints & bones so it's a mixed bag. Depression is a very common symptom of fibro due to the chronic pain so the anti-depressants wont actually help the pain directly but the indirect benefit is you wont notice the pain as much. Check out http://www.fibromyalgiasource.com for more info and my experience living with Fibromyalgia. It is believed to be a fungus infection. Usually the sore muscles are in and around the shoulder area. |
