Anyone else think "fibromyalgia" is a crap disease?

First off, Im a doctor, and I need to vent, because i hate these patients

Fibromyalgia is such a BS disease...its all in your head, every patient i see with fibromyalgia is a pain in the butt, all they do is complain about everything (and no, its not becuase your in "so much pain", i see patients with real pain and who are going to die, and they don't b*tch as much as yall)...hmmm, any "disease" thats treated with an antidepressant doesn't sound like a real disease...

Oh, and any doctor that sees fibromyalgia on your chart, rolls his eyes and sighs before entering the room, bc we all know its crap

I could easily get angry, but you're so wrong.

I am 18. I have had fibromyalgia since I was 11. I would do ANYTHING to be able to do what any normal teenager can do. I do not mention my pain to anyone except my mother and my boyfriend. If anyone asks me how I'm feeling today, I tell them I'm feeling really good. I do not want sympathy, I do not want morphine. What I would like is a good night sleep and to spend one day not in pain.

My pain is real, it's not in my head. I know this because most of my life I have been in denial and have done everything I possibly can to block it out, so I can play sport and be the daughter my Mother wanted me to be.

Are you also saying that depression isn't a real disease?

You're so incredibly patronizing and rude. I'm glad I don't have to hear anymore of your BS!

...

I am truely offended by your question. My mother was recently diagnosed with this disease by a certified doctor. She didn't want it, and certainly had no clue as to what this disease was. She is in chronic pain every single day. She has arthritis, scleroderma, and mixed connective tissue disease, and well, fibromyalgia. She doesn't know exactly how she got this disease, and wishes she didn't have any of these diseases whatsoever. How dare you feel this way.

I think ur an a**hole doc for saying so but ur right in the majority of cases...i come from a family of docs and we always laugh at the obese cat ladies who complain about fibromyalgia...but anyway, if u are a real doc u should kno that swearing stopped being cool in college and makes u sound like an immature jerk with anger management issues

If you are indeed a doctor, I hope you Insurance is current and you need to stop taking those narcotics you claim to prescribe.

Secondly, I will not dignify your remarks regarding FM - only to say - Thanks for the 2 points.

no fibromyalgia is a crap disease and i thank god i dont have u as a doctor in fact u should b struck off!!
oh and i think u need help

No, I don't think fibromyalgia is a crap disease...I think YOU are full of crap.

Yeah, I highly doubt that you are a doctor.

What kind of doctor are you anyway may be you should change your profession or change your views i suffer with persistant pain have not worked for 15 years and NO IT IS not ALL in my head IT IS IN MY BODY!!!Been done all that do you think so stuff...and ALSO fibro was added to my list it didn't make it any better or worse.NO it is not BS try going to fibro support group there are many most cuties have several chapters look up you local community services. it can be very debilitating my daughter has it. a rhuemotiodologist could also help with diagnosis I know excercise is very good try in a warm pool that is easier. If you are a doctor I am ever so glad you are not mine Maybe you trained at woolworths ?perhaps if you felt the pain you'd have another tune to sing!!

You know, if you are actually a doctor, I hope that I never end up being seen by you. I actually am a doctor, and though fibromyalgia is almost certainly not a single disease process, and it's difficult to define or diagnose, the pain the many sufferers feel is real. Of course there are drug seekers who come in and use it because they know they can't be found out and the want the narcotics, but that doesn't mean that there are not people who are suffering from a chronic, ill-defined and poorly understood pain syndrome who really need help. Just because they can be difficult to treat doesn't mean that it's their fault, don't blame your patients for your own failings.

Oh wow... your an *** hole! I hope I never ever have you or see you. Because I have Fibromyalgia, and I think it is real. I hurt... and yeah I DON'T TAKE ANTIDEPRESSANTS!!! No, I don't complain every chance I get. I tollerate it, because complaining won't help. There are plenty of doctors who have explainations for it. There are also plenty of doctors who believe in it. The people you see, maybe be just complainers. Ever think of that!? Maybe it's the people from where your from. OR MAYBE it's because they have a stupid *** doctor who doesn't act like he cares! Isn't part of your job caring about your patient? Um yeah I think so, because you know what? I also happen to be a nurse! All doctors are not like you! Not all doctors are unconsiderate, stupid, *** holes like you! I wake up every morning and I hurt everywhere. Maybe you should wake up every morning feeling like that, and then tell me it's not ******* real!!!

Pay you malpractice premium lately?-the reason it is so high is because of real doctors who think like this-

Because I have FMS-Doctors keep telling me I'm fine and should stay actve-they have missed other diagnosis because they refuse to listen and think.

1st it was severe arthritis in my foot as a result of an old injury (desk fell on it)-after 2 years and 4 doctors-i put the xray up in front of me-and I pointed out the large spot of discoloration-
the docs knew for 2 years that my pain in my foot was caused by arthritis-but couldn't be bothered-

I could have sued.

2nd-
I was severely ill for months before getting a diagnosis-heart racing at 160/virus like symptoms-turned out to be Mono-after a trip to the ER in an ambulance with severe dehydration and visits to multiple doctors---

I could have sued.

3rd
while having a seizure due to medical malpractice-I hit my head...afterwards-I couldn't chew food or even sit up unaided-I continued to have difficulty with emotional and physical symptoms for months including dizziness and anger and light and sound sensitivity...4 docs said "You're fine, stay active"--

they never bothered to check the dent in my skull....

I have post concussive syndrome-I only found out after hearing a report of a hockey player with it and recognized the symptoms-

I could have sued....

These doctors dismissed me because Ihave FMS-

It is sad to say, but a lot of times FMS is BS-but it's not the patients' faults-it is teh fault of doctors who use teh term fibromalgia to mean any pain and fatigue-and tell people whose pain is do to another condition or even theri normal activities-that the pain is called Fibromyalgia-

The malpractice of these doctors have taken away from the legitmacy of the disease.

I honestly almost died in an unrelated incident-I know what the pain of being near death feels like. I was without oxygen, barely able to move, passing out when I escaped. The pain was excrutiating, but bearable. I was able to work through it.

Although the FMS pain usually isn't that bad, it has been nearly as bad and even worse at times.

I don't complain about everything. I have a very positive attitude about it. As a result of living through the attempt on my life, I realize that as long as I am alive, nothing is as bad....

I approach my FMS matter of factly-saying a treatment did or did not help-laughing off my difficulties-

I don't ask for drugs much--at the most-I want 10 narcotic pills per year and a week worth of a sedative just in case I have a couple bad nights in a row.....

are you saying depression isn't a real disease-I'm sure your country's medical licensing board would love you to say that....

FMS isn't just treated by antidepressants-in fact-they do not help my FMS at all..

The only FDA approved drug for FMS is a NEUROLOGICAL DRUG-not a psychiatric drug-Lyrica is in the antiseizure class...

I have had symptoms since I was 5. I was physically unable to keep up with my peers even though I loved sports and desperately tried-that was not all in my head-----and at that time-I had an ideal childhood-no emotional/physical trauma that 'caused' it....
