Fibromyalgia flare up?

How long does a flare up usually last? Are there any home remedies to ease the pain?

It really varies from person to person. Mine can last a few hours to over a year.

As far as home remedies, depending on what is hurting I use ice or heat, sometimes the heating patches, various braces depending on what hurts, sometimes a product called Mineral Ice on my shoulders, and elevation of limbs that are hurting.

These are all in addition to using a TENs unit, receiving physical therapy 3-4 times a year, taking a prescription muscle relaxant, Lyrica, a prescription sleep medication and narcotics when needed.

I hope that helps!

Michelle

Home remedies for fibromyalgia usually comes from natural means. While there are chemical-based medicines like over the counter pain medications and muscle relaxants, you can employ the natural fibromyalgia techniques like getting professional massages and trying out acupuncture or even acupressure for muscle pain relief. Making positive changes with your diet and exercise routines are useful ideas as well. When dealing with chronic fibromyalgia, the key element to relief is finding and doing what works for you. It really depends on what caused the flare up - sleeping wrong, excercise, stress... in general I would say 1 - 3 days would be average time for a flare up and yes there are things you can do at home but I will warn you, finding the right treatment is a game of trial and error. I prefer heat over cold as heat relaxes tense muscles, also ibuprofen helps reduce inflamation. A little quiet time with a book and some music can help relieve stress if that is causing the flare up. There really is no predicting how long a flare will last. Warm water helps me a great deal. There is a book you should get to read up on trigger points and how to release them. I will post a link for you . Its a complex disorder and learning all that you can will help you to survive when you have flares.
