Anyone here have Fibromyalgia?

I just found out today I have this from a neurosurgeon. After reading online about it I've had it about 10+ yrs. Needless to say Ive been to several Dr's...7 to be exact not counting any ER visits.

What do you take?

The neurosurgeon is sending me to a pain clinic. What can I expect?

THX!! Im just so mad its taken SO many DR's,tests and YEARS!!

Hope the pain clinic calls tomorrow with an appt. I cant stand this. I have some meds left but since the neurosurgeon didnt see anything that needed surgery he didnt give me anything else.I cant believe a BRAIN DR caught this! Ugh its awful...Im so upset...

btw..Im 35

my best friend has it. she's had it for a couple years, and she's 16 now. it was really hard at first because the doctors thought it was in her head, but then they tried cutting out wheat of her diet to see if it would help and other stuff like that, but it didn't work. she had a lot of pain, but now, she's on fibro pills and pain medication and acupuncture. she has 'bad fibro days' (as she calls them) every once and a while, but she's doing okay now. she goes to school two times a week, but she can do most everything normal now. =]

it's hard in the beginning, but just stay strong, hun. :] be glad it's recognized now, so you can get it treated.

That is a very bad disease.. saps all your strength and hard to prove you have at first...

I completely understand your frustration - the diagnosis part is one of the hardest to deal with as it consists of ruling out other conditions while receiving no answers or relief. Now that you have a diagnosis you can work on treatment which is pretty much a game of trial and error. Positive thinking and support groups are your friends throughout this.

Fibromyalgia is believed to be a disorder of the Central Nervous System. as this theory becomes more accepted-more neurologists will be diagnosing it.

More than 10 years ago it was wrongly beleived to be a disorder of teh musculoskeletal system (rheumatology)..

the meds that show teh most promise are neuro in nature-SNRis (possibly not SSRIs) and antiseizure meds-

things like lyrica, cymbalta, tramadol

If they give you ant inflammatories or muscle relaxants-get out of tehre quick-there is NO inflammation with fibromyalgia
