Which is better for fibromyalgia prozac or lexapro and which has the least side effects ?

please keep in mind i would be taking the generic form they are supposed to be the same but i dont know. I have fibro pretty bad but im scared to take those kind of meds but i really do need relief im a single mom of a daughter who also has her own set of problems thanks so much for any help !!!!!

Anyone claiming to be cured or SIGNIFICANTLY helped by alternative treatments never had FMS to begin with--they had a different condition specifically treatable by the method they used.

i tried acupuncture, chiropractic, aromatherapy, etc....did NOTHING.......

these things may take teh edge off teh FMS symptoms by managing secondary conditions, but do not affect the FMS directly....and if you do not have a secondary condition tehy will not help you--

When someone asks a specific question about a specific med and your response is to just say try acupuncture you are not answering the question and are in violation of the community guidlines-

I am SICK of people pushing their so called cures and babble and websites--when their website has nothign to do with teh actual question....

Prozac and Lexapro are pretty similiar with similar side effects. They are both SSRI's which means they regulate how much seratonin (naturally produced by the brain) is metabolized. Most of the side effects (drowsiness or difficulty sleeping, depending on the individual, changes in appetite, dizziness, dry mouth) go away after 2-3 weeks. The side effect that can be most problematic for people is decreased sexual desire and it generally lasts as long as you are taking the medication. However if your condition (whether it be fibro or depression, or whatever SSRI's can be prescribed for) is severe enough for medication, sex may not be very high on your list of priorities as it is. For example, my severely depressed clients have difficulty just getting out of bed in the morning and sex is the least of their worries. I'm not sure how fibro would fit in with this analogy, but I imagine that if you're in pain, sex is not your top concern.

Lexapro has less side effects for most people--it was specifically made to be a lower side effect drug--but both Lexapro and Prozac are SSRIs-supposedly the SNRis are the drugs that work-although I do find that Lexapro helps me sleep-

I didn't know they made a Generic Lexapro-that woudl be great......

there are other alternitives to medicine. For example i tried acupuncture to help me. http://www.fibromyalgiasymptomstreatment... has all the information that you require
