In simple terms what is fibromyalgia?

Why is recognised by some but not others?

Is it considered a psychological condition?

Thanks

It is not psychological. It is a chronic pain condition caused by the imbalance of neurochemicals - which results in the symptoms. They are still doing a lot of research and whatnot and do not have a good understanding of it. It is considered a syndrome because it is a collection of symptoms rather than a disease process where there is damage to the bodies tissues.

Fibro is a very frusterating and painful condition, but once you reach acceptance with it, it is managable. It is very frusterating though that some people do not recognise it as a legitimate condition and not something that you 'make up' or is you just being a 'hypochondriac'.

It is NOT a psychological problem. It is beleived to be a disorder of teh central nervosue system. there has been some success with neuro based drugs such as Lyrica (antiseizure) that supports teh theory that it is a physical neuro conditioin.

It is not recognized by many doctors because they are pompous pigs. they refuse to recognize their limitations and educate tehmselves. they refuse to listen-it is because the docs have a pyschological problem.

It is a condition characterized by wide spread pain, fatigue among a myriad of otehr symptoms.

It is NOT rheumatic (musculoskeletal)-that is a theory that had been disproven.

It is NOT autoimmune.

It is NOT cured by antibiotics, vitamins/supplements, anti-inflammatories. People that were cured by any of tehse NEVER had REAL FMS-tehy had another condition--

diet/exercise/mutlivitamins may help with teh symtpoms-by optimizing the health of your body-but they will not affect teh condition itslef-and will not cure you

A. Widespread pain in all four quadrants of their body for a minimum of three months

B. At least 11 of the 18 specified tender points (see diagram**)
