Is fibromyalgia something that you have to live with for the rest of your life?

There is no cure for this? If a person were to have this, would a Dr. know right away, or would it take a long time for him/her to diagnose this?

Yes, at this point it appears to be a lifelong condition, although from experience I can tell you that it goes into periods of remission at times. As far as diagnosis, a lot of the diagnosis is made by exclusion - in other words from what they can prove you DON'T have. Things like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc. The best person to diagnosis fibromyalgia is either a rheumatologist or a pain specialist. There are new medications for it that can help, but for me, the absolute best thing was aquatic therapy. If your insurance covers it, go for it. If they don't , just take the Arthritis Foundation's swim classes at the Y. If you want more information, you can email me.

Generally, it is chronic. Symptoms can come and go--but you will have it the rest of your life--or unrtil they find a good treatment.

There have been reports of people with Fibromylagia getting better--those people probably didn'thave REAL Fibromylagia-they had a Different condition...

Most doctors will never know if you have FMS or not--because they are pompous idiots who refuse to educate themselves..

Some doctors label any pain as fibromyalgia-even normal pain due to lifesyle or pain from Lymes disease...

If you find a rare doctor who is truly competant to diagnose FMS-they will need to take time to rule out other conditions with blood tests/MRI/X ray, etc..., but would be able to give a diagnosis within a couple months---but it is ahrd to find a competant doc....
