Serotonin, Mental Illness, and Fibromyalgia...?

I was reading about this recently and was wondering what other people thought. Ok, it's well know that people with ocd and other mental illnesses have low serotonin levels. I also read that people who have fibromyalgia alos have lower then normal levels of serotonin. Do you think that if someone has ocd or a mental illness, that they're more likely to suffer from fibromyalgia? Or vice versa. Do you think if someone suffers from fibromyalgia, they're more likely to suffer from a mental illness such as ocd? I think it's very possible. And if people take meds for illnesses such as ocd, it raises the serotonin levels, right? Well, if the serotonin levels are being raised or whatever, besides decreasing the symptoms that go along with ocd, wouldn't it also decrease the symptoms of fibromyalgia? I don't know if people knew anything about this before, But it's new to me and was wondering what everyone else thought. Thanks for answering =)

I don't know what ocd is but I do have fibromyalgia and have take different drugs to help with the serotonin and the neonephrine am now on effexor 150mg a day with alot of other med's. Its a very depressing disease. You don't know why or how you got it and having been fighting with disability for 2 yrs. now & have an attorney.. Stupid things like I can't open a door, can't exercise can't sit for long periods.Hurt like hell 24/7.E-Mail is stahlcyndi@yahoo.com
Take care-Hoped this helped some..

OCD is obsessive compulsive disorder

Cymbalta -a medication that regulates serotonin was just approved for FMS

Cymbalta and similar meds have been used for FMS for a long time.
Tramadol-pain med--also works on serotonin

the belief is that for FMS you actually need a serotonin norepinephrin medication (SNRI) like cumbalta instead of soemthign that only works on serotonin.
