Fibromyalgia..who has the answers?

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia almost 2 years ago. Is there anyone else out there who has it? And what do you do for the pain? I'm going crazy with the pain and the stupid Army isn't doing much about it because they don't KNOW anything about it. I've tried all kinds of pain meds. The one that works so far that isn't a narcotic is Darvocet...

Any home remedies out there? Don't tell me to quit smoking and not eat fried foods.....that part I already know.

Oh, and please keep in mind that I'm stationed in Germany right now so actually going to some of these places that you may mention is hard/impossible for me.

Hi Lucy,
Some people find that massage is a good adjecent program to diet and a regular exercise program. Severe and constant pain can lead one to feel depressed but there are different possibilities out there to help you learn how to cope with your issue. Bio feedback, hypnosis, massage, are just some of the different possibilities... you may want to look into finding a nutritionist in your area online is also a good way to learn more... support groups will get you in touch with what other people are doing to help themselves. http://www.fmnetnews.com/ is a nice site to begin with.
Good Luck!

The best thing I have found to manage my pain and headaches is massage therapy. I go every 2 weeks and it definitely helps! Other than that I try to get a decent sleep every night - 8 hours - and I take antidepressants. The most important thing is to listen to your body and if it hurts then stop and take some time to relax your body - try sitting in a hot tub for quick relief of tense muscles.

I've had fibromyalgia since 1982 http://www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm I wrote 100 Tips for Coping at http://www.fms-help.com/tips.htm You can also find a lot of helpful hints and fascinating articles about fibro on my homepage at http://www.fms-help.com I wish you all the best!

Darvocet is Narcotic

Propoxyphene is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers.

the most promising treatments are neuro in nature as it seems that FMS is a disorder of teh central nervous system

SNRI-Cymbalta
antiseizure-Lyrica
pain med Tramadol

Yes, i was diagnosed with it about 2 and a half yrs ago-after along time seeing Dr's tests etc..and i know what you mean about Dr's not knowing much about it!
They do know more about it now though then just 2 yrs ago.
anyway the pain med that worked for me was tramadol, but then i started taking large doses of magnesium after a friend brought me an article about natural relief for the pain- i showed it to my Dr and he said that magnesium has been thought to help. anyway about 6 mths later i rarely have the pain like i did in the beginning and that was so bad i could not even walk at times .
i do see now that they have a med called Lyrica--they show the ad on Tv for it and it is supposed to be for fibro pain.
either way try taking magnesium-i swear it is what helped me more then anything but you have to give iot a chance top really get in your system-good luck to you
