The DLA standards in the UK are very specific regarding which levels of incapacity are required for eligibility. It is likely that your physician's notations do not support this level of disability. You can try to reapply.

Otherwise, discuss these issues with your physicians. Ideally, they have tried or are willing to try pregabalin for the fibromyalgia symptoms. I will advise you that when you first start taking this medication, it takes about 2 months to get to a stable dose, and you will only get about a 50% relief of the symptoms. I have had many patients complain that the medication does not work because it wasn't a magic pill that took their symptoms away, and took the symptoms away immediately and completely.

I have found that with fibromyalgia, the most important part of managing the symptoms, is diet, physiotherapy, and psychological support. Medications are only partially effective, so these others become much more important.

You need to work with your mental health counselors and try to get associated with a support group. You are only 40, and while it is no fun to live with pain, you can improve, and you need to improve for your children. Always remember that your children's love will see you through this, even when it seems most troubling.

I pray you find some relief.

How have you made it to age 40? Whatever that has been is probably what you'll have to keep doing.
Xanax, Ativan, etc will help with the anxiety/panic attacks and help you sleep. Pain meds for the fibromyalgia. It may suck to live like this but you've gotta do what you've gotta do for you and your kids to survive.

I am in my 40s, i am on disability because of my heart, spine, migraines. everyone is denied disability the first time.. everyone! keep fighting for it! when you do get it, it is retroactive all the way back to when your health prob. started. keep fighting for it! keep strong for your kids though! dont let them suffer too. remember: keep fighting for it!

What you need to do is appeal the decision. Even with like SSI for instance they will deny you hoping you will go away, you appeal and that's when you get the ok.
I myself have Fibro and let me tell you the biggest thing you can do for yourself is to get control, you have to take it and not let the disease control you. Your 40 years old you have a lot of living still to do and think about your kids. You need to do whatever it takes to get your mind off the pain, heck i live in pain 24/7, i have something worse then the Fibro and i worked as a firefighter and now i own a horse rescue, i train horses. Find anything, get out of the house, live or this will eat you up...This will help with the anxiety to...Now your night terrors, have you seen a sleep specialist? Something you may want to consider if not. I have two neighbors with this...One guy cant sleep with his wife because she ends up getting black eyes, the neighbor across from me screams help me, its frightening to hear. You may want to find a support group with others like you, people not in chronic pain will not understand you and you can not expect them to either...Only we know, we live it every moment of our life.

i am 45 and i was diagnosed with fibro last year, i take a bunch of meds daily, 8 to be exact but not including herbals. i also was told that i am post menoausal which can cause a lot of the same symptoms. what has been working for me is one med that is for fibro, it is lyrica u can also try a website that is sstrictly for fibro patients and they also have a bunch of herbals made for us. u could also have sleep apnea.

i have found that reading and writing down the worst dreams have helped to get them out of my head and i am able to sleep better. i hope that u are able to find some relief with this info. below is the link for the fibro site gl

I assume your in the UK

Appeal their decision and make sure your doctors and specialists are through and comprehensive in their reports.

You could also speak to a disability lawyer and who may help you appeal or reapply for the DLA. It seems many people are denied payments on initial application, but when they appeal or reapply.

Are you on any medication for the anxiety & panic attacks? And has your doctor suggested CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). This helped me a little with recognizing the signs of an attack coming on, and how to manage an anxiety attack, thankfully they are not so severe.

Are you involved in a support group for the Fibro and anxiety, this can help in just being able to talk to someone else who is in similar situation.

Try not to get to cold or hot, keep the fluids up especially in summer as dehydration can cause more pain. Sleeping medication can help, but try not to use it every night.

I have CFS (15 years) & Fibromyalgia (about 6 years). I take Neurontin for the Fibro, but it fairly expensive, but I take it because I would not be able to function. I also use a fairly good sleep medication, I mostly only use it I have had two nights or more of little or no sleep due to pain, or I have to work the next day and I am pain, and know sleep is going to elude me.

Sorry about the list of links but some maybe of some help to you, some are UK and other USA.

Please be gentle with yourself
