Do you believe that the desease called FIBROMYALGIA exist? If so, what's your recommendation for treatment?

According to American college of Rheumatology classification guidelines, a patient is diagnosed of having" fibromyalgia" if he has widespread pain for at least three months and have a minimum of 11 location on his body.

There is no cure so reassurance is key to management. One should try to understand and analyze symptoms and try to avoid factors which increases the pain.

One should consult with treating physician for medications along with pain-killers and anxiolytics.
Exercise and physical therapy helps.
Certain diet adjustments should be done.
Acupuncture and yoga can be tried.

Hey there,

YOu have asked a loaded question. i say that because when I was in Grad school about 3 years ago I was taught this is a real disease but that some people think its a catch all diagnosis.

For me, I have met people that have it and I can tell you its real.

Research it because it seems like to me, treatments vary according to how bad it is. I have seen people take pain meds, anti depressants like cymbalta and even lyrica.

I think Knowledge is power and educating yourself about it is about the most important thing you can do.

This problem can be caused by infections.Fibromyalgia can easily be a false diagnosis. Some of the symptoms can be caused by infestions like borreliosis/lyme disease. There is new research to indicate this .

i've had fibro since I was 5
I refer to it as a DISORDER--not a syndrome

I do not have any other conditions. My own researcher concurs with current accepted research.

I am active in medical research-participating in clinical trials.

I had a seizure 6 years ago that temporarily reversed teh symptoms..that led me to understand that FMS was really a DISORDER of teh CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM---basically teh seizure reset my CNS--just as a defibrilator resets a heart...

it is NOT
due to thick body secretions-it maybe a symptom-or a completely diferent conditionthat has similar symptoms to FMS

it is NOT autoimmune--there may be immune dysfunction--but the body is not attacking itself (autoimmune means teh body attacks itself)

it is NOT a nutrional disorder

it is NOT a pyschosomatic disorder

It is not cuased by a musculoskeltral (rheumatological) disorder-the muscle pain is a symptom, not a cause

many docs DO use it as a term to describe Normal pain or pain due to any other illness--they will say pain from running a marathon is FMS--or pain from Arthritis is FMS..it is NOT

teh most promising tretamenst For REAL fms are neuro in nature-Lyrica, Cymbalta, possibly tramadol

you need meds that target the signals from teh brain to teh body (neuro)

not meds that target the signals from teh body to the brain (narcotics, NSAIDS< etc)

As a person living with it I can say that it is real, but I wish it wasnt! I have days when I cant even hold my child, cant get outta bed without pain. I am stubborna dn dont like pain meds, so I have gone th natural approach. I use massage therapy, breathing techniques, and walking as much as I can and it helps a little.

In my reasearch on the matter, I noticed that is mostly affects women and that it usually follows some sort of traumatic event, I am a brain tumor survior, and had about 7 surgies to date and I think my pain endurance or threshhold is lower than most? I dont fully understand it but i know its real!

Cut out all Gluten from your diet.
Get on an anti depressant
Get on a light physical exercise regimen

These things were done in a Clinic in Lueven Belgium. My Husband attended for six months. He returned half a year later a changed man. I learned how to cook gluten free. He went to law school and started life. FIBROMYALGIA IS REAL

Drop the wheat for a week, you will notice a difference. Good luck and God Bless
