What can be done to ease the pain of fibromyalgia?

Mine manifests itself in the connective tissues around my joints. For years I've though I had arthritis.

FMS is a disorder of the central nervous system. there is no inflammtion--there for NSAIDS (like ibuprofren and naproxin) have little to no effect)

the 2 official meds are Lyrica (anti seizure) and Cymbalta..

just as 1 antiseizure med might not stop seizures in 1 person--but another does--it is possible that Lyrica may work for you if neurontin doesn't----all antiseizure meds have variations from one another.

most people say heat--cold actually works for me--

vitamins might help minimally---but you will be lucky if they even take the edge off the pain--they mostly help when you have pain due to a vitamin deficiency-which fms is not...

REAL fms is neuro.

things like thick body fluids/body acid--and a host of other conditions also cause pain and fatigue---but that is NOT REAL FMS-that is ANOTHER CONDITION.

its ashame when people STEAL HOPE by offering free information on a false theory/cure....hope is more valuable than money---so even though information may be free--they are SELLING hope--watch out for quackery

Heat is good. Vitamin supplements that help with pain include taking magnesium maleate, manganese, selenium and a megastress vitamin B complex. For some people, ibuprofren or naproxyn work well.
If you live in a cold climate, for the fall/winter, wearing long underwear can help diminish the pain that cold sensitivity can make worse.
Both Lyrica and Neurontin are from from the same class of medications, so if one doesn't work well for you, the chance that the other works at all is diminished. Neurontin is a generic drug, these days, while Lyrica is not. If you are on a fixed income or have no insurance, that can make a big difference.
Another thing that can cause an upswing in pain is adrenal insufficiency- talk to your doc about that possibility- you may need some low level hydrocortisone to increase your adrenal capacitiy.

The main two drugs for it are Lyrica and Neurontin,, it's a very painful disease,, here are a few links that will help you a lot with great information, the pain and pain management. Good luck

Probably the non steroidal anti-inflammatories are best, Motrin, anaprox, naprosyn, Mobic and the like are best. I am glad to hear that you finally have a diagnosis for your discomforts. What does you doctor suggest? Have you ever tried chiropractic? I have for about a year and while my aches and pains are not all gone, they have improved considerably.

Prescription or OTC pain relievers, anti-inflamatories.

I'd also suggest you talk to your doctor, see if there's any kind of dietary/herbal things you can do to help out.
