What best helps your fibromyalgia?

I have to take mild narcotic pain pills, I cannot exercise as it hurts too much in my legs, I get an occasional massage, I can't take anti-depressants as they make me a zombie all that they tried me on.

Wonder what helps you.

Hot showers, rest, massage & food elimination has helped me to stay off the meds. Just one or 2 chewable childrens aspirin once a day seems to helps me. I stretch & try to take short walks. I wish I could exercise....but it hurts so much I end up in bed for days if I try! I don't like to talk about it...I have just learned to live with it 24/7.
Have you tried a pain management workshop? It's a way to train your brain to focus so the pain has a path that allows you to function without meds. I also took a body mechanics class to learn how to bend & lift & sit & stand & get in & out of bed. These things all have an effect on your pain. Even the way you sleep can determine if you will have a good day or a bad one! Don't give up...sooner or later you will find the right way to manage your fibro. Good luck.

I suppose you could classify it as such. I just wish I could organize my life in my new place as well as I had it in my past unit. Most of my stress comes from having to walk around objects & tripping over things! Small injuries can really turn me into a monster from the pain.
I can't do cold! Thx Report Abuse

Education helps best--ignoring quackey like the repeated reference to fibrofix in many other fibro questions--that person did not have real Fibro--she had something else-

i have particiapted in research--and have found the regulating the neuro system is key--just can't find a good way to do it yet--I had a seizure in 2002 which reversed teh symptoms--but they slowly came back

the 3 approved drugs have had limited success anyway...

there have been studies that suggest a problem with blood flow inteh brain--and viagra is beign investiagted as a treatment fro it

look at www.clinicaltrials.gov to read about more things in teh works

while diet/exercise cantake teh edge off-as it will help some secondary problems that aggravate fibro--it will not help fibro it selfanyone who claims to have been cured never had real fibro

If you do need an antidepressant, it needs to be the right type and taken at the best time of day.

Greedy people are lying about Fibromyalgia because it is a billion dollars

The truth is setting us free.

My gf who has fibro said she alkalized her body and now is losing tons of weight and she stopped drinking tap water. She also stopped all msg products and aspartame when I sent her the web sites. Now she manages without pain killers. she can exersize now and feels great not to mention she lost about fifty pounds already.

Fibromyalgia from what I'ved researched is a degenerative disease and was theorized to be caused by oxidative stress brought about by an increased free radicals that are produced by our body.
A free radical is a molecule with unpaired electrons in its outer shell. It is highly reactive, and will 鈥渞ob鈥?a neighboring molecule of its electron, which in turn becomes a free radical 鈥?setting off a chain reaction of destruction. Free radicals come not only from pollution and toxins from the outside, but are also generated by our cells during the process of burning food for energy. So there is no practical way of avoiding them.
What we need are Antioxidants to protect our cells. Antioxidants donate electrons to free radicals, but do not become free radicals as a result. Hence they stop the chain reaction of destruction. We should get a significant amount of antioxidants from our food or from food supplements. The more the antioxidants in our body, the less damage free radicals cause. Magnesium found in almonds, Brazil nuts, dates etc helps to relax your muscles.

Omega 3 oils help to keep the covering on your nerves healthy thereby sending painfree messages to your brain.

Exercise by walking or swimming or water aerobics.

Gentle stretching helps a lot!

I have it and I am current doing IMS treatment (Intra-Muscular Stimulation). Dr. Gunn from my city Vancouver BC is the Dr who discovered this. It is similar to acupunture but it targets tight and shortened muscles causes a charlie and then the muscle will start to lenthen. Most websites and testamonials say it is a mild discomfort... I would say it is a little more then that. It is more painful the tighter your muscles are. Don't be discouraged if you don't feel better after your first treatment it may take 2 or 3. I go once a week. Extended health insurance will cover it. It is about $70 to $100 cnd for each treatment done by a physio therapist. Make sure your physio has a good reputation and has taken Dr. Gunn's course. I am also going to try Prolotherapy for a more permenent relif. Prolotherapy is expensive about $150 to $200 cnd per treatment and you may need as many as 20. It is an injection of numbing medicine and sugar water this helps in pain relif to to encourage the body to heal and grown new ligaments and stronger muscles. Insurance however doesn't cover it because it is naurapathic. I have heard that you may be able to appeal your case with your insurance company if it has helped. Massage and and Chiropractic only give temporary relif (2 to 3 days). I would also suggest the supplement Recovery it is all all vegan supplement helpful for joints keep at it because for me it took 5 to 7 days to feel a different. Good Luck :)
