My mother in law has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but is not getting treatment for it what can I do?

My mother in law has been diagnosed with firbromyalgia, I know what it is but it has been months and she just acts like she doesn't care we even found her a specialists to go to and offered to take her after she was diagnosed she won't go. It's been 6 months and she has been in and out of the doctor, several emergency room visits, her claim for disability denied, she lays in the bed everyday doesnt go anywhere or do anything anymore. What she does manage to do is irrate my husband because she calls him all the time with complaints of how bad she feels. He has had enough and at this point has washed his hands of her he has talked and talked to her about her getting treatment but she will not listen to him. It bothers me because I know it hurts my husband and because she has a four year old grandson that she does't spend any time with he barely knows his own grandparents. I used to be able to look over it but we are planning to have another child, I guess it just upsets me that she would rather do nothing than get treatment and maybe spend more time with her family

Be strict but with lots of love, and tell her there is help for her with massages water therapy, and of course medicine.
If she refuses demand that she stops complaining or the family will totally ignore her. Her whinning has got to stop because the family can't take anymore!! God helps those who help themselves. No one has time for wimps do you? Explain that the family will spend more time with her if she heeds your advice.

If she can take Lyrica, her pain would, most likely, disappear. I have fribromyalgia. I took Lyrica, but, it interferred with my asthma. If she does not have asthma, try her on the prescription of Lyrica.........it really takes the pain away.

She may not be able to help it.

Here is info you and your family can use to help her yourselves.

Contact info is on the front page.

Go to Doctor with her and tell the Doctor she is not taking her medication and you are concerned.

Form what I understand of it you need to keep moving even if you don't want to. Or hurts...I have had several doctors tell me that I may have it due to my symptoms, I have not been officially tested. I just keep moving around and exercise is the best keeps you strong and muscles hurt less. Can not give up. If someone doesn't want to help themselves there may not be anything you can do. Maybe tell them you don't want to see them suffer when there is something they could be doing. We are not coming over as often.

Why don't you have a talk with her? There are many meds and treatments to ease fibromayalgia,, my friend has this for many years and is doing pretty well with her meds. Maybe you could convince hr that you want her to be a part of you and your husbands lives and especially the grandchildren!! Tell her the medical bills are piling up so, instead of going to the E.R."s all the time she can get meds from a doctor and feel much better. She may feel she has no use to anyone anymore and want s some sympathy, give it to her but, make her understand that she must get help.

Lyrica is not a miracle drug--it helps SOME not many--and a lot of people can't tolerate the side effects--

has she ben evaluated for depression--the meds Cymbalta and Savella are also approved for FMS--and tehy are SNRI (Anti depressants)

Fms is highly over diagnosed--don't have blind faith in the doctors.....

if she were pursing treatment she would have a better chance at winning an appeal for disability
