Has anyone with Fibromyalgia questioned the diagnosis?

I was diagnosed in 2000. But, lately I have been having stranger things to happen. Constant swelling of feet and hands. IBS, sometimes so severe that I have vomited. The weight gain is so depressing and when i try to exercise the pain increases to the point that I loose the interest. AND YES I AM DEPRESSED. sorry for the shouting. But that is what they keep saying. I am not crazy. Something is definitely going on other than the fibromyalgia. Can someone confirm this for me.

I had trouble understanding the previous 2 answers and am not sure if they answered your question. Let me first say that I am not a doctor, nurse, or other medical professional. But I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, IBS, RLS, and other stupid things. Usually if your doctor suspects fibromyalgia, he/she will run numerous tests to rule other things out. When those all come back normal, the fibromyalgia diagnosis is made. I have all of the symptoms you describe except for the swelling. But you know your body so you have to make sure your doctor performs every reasonable test to rule out anything else. Don't take no for an answer.
I will caution you though, don't be so consumed with finding answers that you make yourself worse. I have done this in the past and know that stress and worry definitely made my symptoms worse. Research fibro if you haven't already. If you don't feel like your doctor is taking you seriously, find another one who has experience treating fibro. Get in touch with others who have fibro or chronic fatigue syndrome (many feel they're one and the same). There are lots of groups you can join right here on Yahoo. And you are welcome to contact me. I'll be happy to listen and talk.

fms is highly over diagnosed--by INCOMPETANT doctors--and Nurses

it is possible taht you have fms and anotehr condition though....

weight gain is a major red flag for a thyroid problem----i have heard taht the thyroid test can be unrelaible.

if you are on any meds--they could be causing your weight gain....but swelling is not a symptom of fms

I am using my old screen name to make this response stand out

MISHMASH Implies that all people with FMS are overweight....is 5'2 and 110 lbs overweight?

MISHAMASH implies that only MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS are knowledgable about FMS.....I am a patient that has participated in LEGITIMATE research..

I ahve read the MEDICAL JOURNALS that call FMS a real neuro disease---in fact I figured out before it was in articles that it was a neuro condition--i knew BEFORE most MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS..

for every so called medical journal that claims it is a fake disease--there are many that give the truth--including the FACTS that there is objective evidence of problems with neurotransmitters and blood flow to teh brain...

and not all people with FMS are depressed--besides the FMS--when I developed FMS--i didn't evenhave any other physical conditions....

Meidcal Profressionals need to elarn that they are not gods---and neeed to respect the patient...and teh patienst ability to particiapte in her own care---

teh HONcode thing doesn't mean crap--it looks liek as long as someone has a piece of apper that declares they graduated form medial school--the can apply for teh code--doesn't mean they are legit--just means they have a piece of paper taht claims they are smart---I ahve read a lot of quckery from bonafide docotrs

I woudlliek to report people using a supposed nursing credential to commit MALPRACTICE to teh nursing board

and teh OPCA crap-----beign that 20 years after my symtpoms started at age 5--there is no evidence of degeneration--further discredits your rant

and--I have been periodiallcy a TOP CONTIBUTER in teh OTHER DISEASES category

if people that claim that FMs is an umbrella term have an HONcode--it proves that the HONcode is meaningless
