Neurontin for fibromyalgia? Anyone tried it and what personal side-effects did you experience? It might help you sleep better. I personally did not notice any real side effects except the slight grogginess in the morning. I was using it for nerve pain from blown disks. It helped some. Hi, I have heard of dumb dr's perscribing Nuerontin (gabapentin) for Fibromyalgia. the problem is that Fibromyalgia is pain that mostly comes from the muscles, not the nerves. so it probablly wouldnt do too much, excepy make you over tired, hungry and groggy. I co-own a Lupus, Fibro and autoimmune yahoo support group. I think a few of the fibro pitents have been perscribed Nuerontin, it helped with their sleep, which is good, but not their muscle pain. Usually for muscle pain, they will give some type of muscle relaxant (flexeril, soma, etc) as well as an antideppresent that aids in sleep (trazadone, desyryl, and a few others. But these alone wont help, and in some people leave you groggy all day. you said you have a baby. You will need a perscription of some kind. maybe a mild sleeping pill to get your sleeping back on track, because the fact is, sleep cycles have a lot to do with the severity of Fibromyalgia, as does body trauma, stress, and possibly viruses, and they are considering the fact it may be an autoimmune disease. One safe thing that may help you, is by upping the amount of omega fatty oils in your diet like salmon or a dietary supplement like omegas 3 or 6, or flax seeds or their oils. You can try the nueronting for a few days and see what it does for you, it may help because of sleep. but not because it is working on your muscle pain. since it works on the nervous system. In the Wikipedia link, they do have a section talking about medications like Nuerontin, you can read and decide if it is right for you... Ill leave you a few links on Fibromyalgia, and a link to our group, we have several Fibromyalgia articles, and many memebers with Fibromyalgia. (yahoo support group) Ask your Doctor about Lyrica!!!!!!! It is a better drug for that! |
