Question about maintaining fitness on a Navy ship? |
I do a lot of running- I know there are treadmills on board, but are sailors allowed to run on the deck? I run for a while- about an hour to 2 hours. Also, would there be an electrical plug to plug-in my laptop or to charge my MP3 player? It will depend on what size of ship you are on. If you are on a big-deck, often you can run in the well deck or hangar when it's empty. There will be electrical plugs (near your rack for example), but you will need to get each electrical thing checked by the ElectrO on board, who can verify that it is safe to be plugged in to the ship's electrical system. MVR is right. On the small boys, you can run around the deck around the ships during exercise time, which normally is couple of hours in the evening (this can be annoying at times, since you'll need to run around other people and equipment). And just like MVR said, electronic things need to be checked out by whoever is in charge of checking those things out. you won't HAVE 2 hours free at one time to run. There are plenty of ladders (stairs to non - Navy folks) to run up and down. On subs that's one way they get exercise. If you want exercise, volunteer for working parties (especially food handling and paint pail handling!). |

People who tell you bally is no good are the lazy ones who thk they... It probably is a bit of both, although I'd say more practice than a skill; however, the biggest factor is fitness. Sure it will help, but I would recommend mixing in some treadmill running and biking. Also work on your basic strength would help.
