In rugby what do you do to gain fitness and strength?

Your best options have been covered already, but you can target your training for your position; if you are a tight forward concentrate more on power building with weights & short speed training, if you are a back go for speed work & endurance running combinations. Repetitive speed training will produce Rugby style endurance better than long distances will. If you are a loose forward or mid-field back you may need to balance both types of training. All rugby will require improved upper body strength to take & give impacts & control the collision in the tackle area.

do lots of running, get on the treadmill or even outside just run around the block a couple times. also do lots of lunges, squats, calf raises and weights. keep up your cardio

Run hills and some steep ones ;short steps up ,long ones down Brings you back to fitness quicker too

Run and lift weights. The same for any sport.
