How can i get a military standard of fitness without actually joining the army?

First answer is absolutely useless. I said 'military standard', which is a lot more intensive than your regular exercise

Try to get a copy of the FM 21-20. It will dictate how various Army PT Programs are conducted. Follow it to the letter, every morning for an hour to an hour and a half, five days a week. Every three months give yourself a PT Test.

180 points (out of a possible 300), 60 per event, is a passing score. However, the average soldier scores a 250 or above. I always had between a 270 - 280 (I run slow).

added--> That was a lame link to 21-20, you should try to find a better one. Sorry about that. I've put on a new link that has a list of a bunch of different military workouts. But I think the most authentic thing you could do is the Army standard morning PT. I just can't get a decent link to 21-20 for you. (The Military and Mac don't work together very well.)

Good luck.

I don't know about the army, but I really don't think you could get into Marine standard of fitness on your own.

Part of the military training pushes you past your physical limits to the point when they are almost literally forcing you to run, either by pushing or dragging you.

There are things you cannot do on your own such as running with a pack, full gear, weapon, ammo, helmet, and another Marine with same gear on your shoulders, or being carried by multiple Marines.

Also you cannot go on logruns. A log run is where a bunch of Marines hold a large log over their heads and run. It's very demanding.

You can however go on a hump on your own. Thats where you carry a full alice or sally pack, full tactical gear meaning flak jacket with sappy plates, weapon, ammo and helmet, and walk at a fast pace for like 20 miles.

You can do regular 6-10 mile runs.

You can do a mock PFT.
This is where you run your fastest time in 3 miles, then do a max set of pullups, and crunches.

This is easy. You should be able to run the 3 miles in less than 20 minutes(anything above 20 minutes is lousy).

20 pullups is a max set so try for that. You should be able to do 100 crunches in a set amount of time. I'm not sure but I thnk it's like 2 minutes. Thats cake.

Anymore help just email me.

my husband bought a book at barnes & noble. he's already military and is in very good shape, but he wanted more intense stuff. he did some PT with some of the EOD guys on his off time, but they recommended this book. it called something like "training with the seals". anyway, it's easy to follow, step by step. dont know if that'll help or not?

Miliarty stand fitness can be gotten at home.

Standard fitness is not that great.

Basicly if you can run two miles at a 8 min a mile pace.

Do 60 pushups and 60 situps

You are at military standard fitness level.

It's called exercise. Do it.
