Help get rid of flu?

I have this virus at the moment the shivers & pains have just eased off today but i still have the blocked nose and cough ( non productive) and can't sleep what is the best thing to do to get rid of it? bed rest or day out in the fresh air. I've had it for a week now any good advice??

Bed rest is seldom advised for anything these days. Generally it is better to be up and about. There is little you can do to reduce the duration of most viral illnesses, they tend to run their course. Theoretically there are a number true anti-viral drugs for 'real' influenza, but they are too expensive for routine use.

Listing the thing that old wives, occasionally old doctors and frequently old Answers' members suggest that have no effect, these include lemons, honey, vitamins, specifically high dose vitamin C, zinc and echinacea.

If you feel good enough, a gental walk will do you more good than bad!!! also drink plenty of water!! and eat well to keep up your energy levels.

Get rest, drink plenty of fluids and take a flu remedy, one with decongestants. Try to take it easy as the virus is attacking your body and it needs time to recover so don't overdo it. Get yourself some dvd's and sit in front of the tv for a few days. A virus can last for ages so don't worry that you've had it for a week. If your cough persists for more than another 3/4 days I would book an appointment at your g.p's just in case you have an infection.

Get well soon

ifit has been less then 48 hours, ask ur doctor about "tamaflu". if it has been over 48 hours, try niquil and dayquil. if u take niquil, it knocks u out, and u will want to sleep in the morning. dont take it if u have somewhere to go early in the morning. good luck and get well!

Stay in bed. drink lots of fluids eg water, tea, hot lemon and honey try to avoid putting alcahol in as will supress your immune system. For your nose ether sit with your head over a bowl of hot water and a towle over your head and inhale the steam. or get a friend or family mamber to get you a decongestant from the chemist. spray or tablet.
If your cough is just a dry tickle in your throught then the lemon and honey will help soothe that but you could get a stronger suppressant from a pharmacy. if it's still chesty but not bringing anything up then you will need an expectorant. guifenicin is one of the most popular.

Easy.....
Stay in Bed.
Window wide open (whatever the weather)
Whiskey/Honey/Hot water in a glass with a slice of Lemon.
No TV Just Radio.
Keep warm and try to sleep often.
Lots of Water.
Try not to have medicine, let your body fight it.
