Home Flu Remedies???

Hi! My family is really sick and I wanna help them as much as possible. Are there any quick home remedies for the flu that I can try?
I know that chicken soup has been proven and my gramma is planning on taking care of that. But is there any tea or something to help them.
It really hurts me to see my parents sick you have no idea.

Please!
Thanx!

i always take barley water with a bit of honey

have them drink pleanty of fluids even if its a table spoon of 7up every 10 minutes, chicken noddle soup, tea and toast
TYlonol allways helps /

Alot of vitamin C, sleep, and fluids.

Drink water with fresh lemon juice and stevia to sweeten it if you like it sweet. Drink lots of water. Eat lots of veggies raw if possible. Eat less sugar, fat and meat. Follow the ph diet.

You all need to bolster your immune system sweetie.......... ensure that you are all getting enough sleep each night and try to focus on a well balanced diet to also help bolster your immune system鈾?focus on eating more fresh fruits and vegies, lean meats and fishes, wholegrains and cereals and ground nuts and seeds ~ if you can eat that is ~ and plenty of fresh filtered water鈾?br>
鈾hile your family sick though here's just a few good old fashioned common sense things that you can do.Go get yourself a powdered form of ascorbid acid (vitamin C) with bioflavonoids from either the health food store or chemist. The bioflavonoids will increase the effectiveness of vitamin C 10 fold. Have 3,000 - 4,000mg (3 - 4 teaspoons) daily mixed with water until the cold ~ flu virus subsides then maintain your immunity with 1 teaspoon daily. Vitamin C will speed the healing process.

Most health food stores also sell a product called Zinc Fix which combines the power of vitamin C with Zinc in a powdered form. The Zinc bolsters the effects of vitamin C and this is my powder of choice for a cold or flu.

Drink vitamin C rich rosehips tea as this is the richest known source of vitamin C. (the organic loose leaf variety - it may be a bit more expensive but as it is organic you can generally reuse the spent leaves a couple of times as the essential oils are so potent).

Increase your intake of vitamin C rich foods on a dialy basis to prevent any further infection and to reduce the amount of time your family members are ill...... ie: citrus fruits, berries, leafy and green vegies, tomatoes and red and green peppers.

Loads of freshly squeezed juices are good too.

Ensure you are all drinking plenty of pure filtered water to flush the germies out of your body .......... and keep you well hydrated ....... avoid sugar as it will create a feeding ground for bacteria ~ virus, and also avoid caffeine containing beverages such as coffee, tea, soda and soft drinks, as these will only serve to dehydrate you and rob your body of essential B & C vitamins.

Ensure you are drinking or eating something with Beta - carotene in it daily to heal quicker and in future to prevent further colds, as Vitamin A will aid in the proper function of the immune system, shorten the duration of illnesses and generally bolster the health of the mucosal lining of your ear nose and throat ie: carrott juice, pumpkin soups.

Take a good quality multi B complex supplement on a daily basis both now while you're sick and for future prevention methods. The B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy immune, digestive and neural functioning and will help your family deal with the extra stress of being ill and you deal with the extra stress of having a family that's feeling miserable and down in the dumps.

Things such as caffeine, sodas and soft drinks, antidepressants, antibiotics, diuretics, laxatives and aspirin and most otc cold medicines and alcohol will also do a great job of robbing you of your precious B vitamins.

Nettle tea bought in the loose organic form from the health food store and brewed for 20 minutes, will help to heal and soothe a sore throat if anybody has one ........... the taste of nettle tea is quite bland and ordinary so perhaps spice it up with some honey or lemon juice.

Also, a good vapour inhalant when you have a cold is to put a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil into a salad bowl of hot water and .......... being carefull not to get so close as to burn your face ......... place a towel over your head and inhale the vapours. This will do a great job of clearing your sinuses, help in reducing any temperature anybody may have and to loosen and remove mucous.

Caution: Avoid using eucalyptus oil if you have high blood pressure or suffer from epilepsy. If either is the case simply substitute for tea tree oil ~ both are extremely potent natural antiseptics and antibacterial agents鈾?br>
Let a bit of fresh air into the house on a daily basis for a couple of hours to circulate fresh air and eliminate musty air and those nasty flu germs ........ put a capfull of eucalyptus oil into a spray bottle of warm water, shake well and spray down door handles, doors, kitchen surfaces, bedside tables in an effort to sanitise the environmen and to speed the recovery process for your family..... do this with the bathroom and toilet as well (but use a separate sponge for the toilet).

I sincerely wish you the best of health and vitality buddy鈾?br>

I was really impressed by minx's answer and found it very informative. I am going to try some of her suggestions new to me and already do a lot of them. The only thing I might add is Probiotics and wish minx would answer my current Q on how to chose the right ones. My brother gave me some when I had a really bad cold and they seemed to help.

I use a simple drink made by myself : 1 slice of orange+1 of lemon + 1tablespoon of honey+150 g hot red wine.
a lot of orange juice,
take care!

Give them lots of friut juices, take a rest also.Give them chicken soup, also have some fresh fruits like orange and apple.
