Mom has the flu!?

Ok my mom has the flu and she is congested, sore throat, runny nose, coughing, sore muscles, and some other things. She went to the doctor and they told her she had the flu. They gave her a Albuterol inhaler for her congested lungs/chest and some Cheratussin cough syrup for coughing. Also some Tamiflu, for the flu but the Tamiflu medicine makes her throw up.I don't know if its because she can't eat anything and the medicine irritates the stomach or what but she doesn't seem to be getting any better or worse. So is there anything she can do to make her feel better until the virus runs its natural course.

Her age is in the mid 40s don't know if it matters.

Too bad that she has influenza and that she can' tolerate the Tamiflu. It helps shorten the course of illness. In the meantime she will need to drink plenty of fluids (something with sugar for energy, salt to prevent dehydration). With the disease, supportive care treating for fever and discomfort is important. Using the albuterol will help her breathe more comfortably and open the airways so that she can move the phlegm out. She can expect the cough to last 4-6 weeks. She needs to be patient with herself and allow herself to heal. Pushing too hard too fast will lengthen the time needed to heal.

For the rest of your household, know that flu is transmitted through the droplets as she coughs and sneezes. Good handwashing, not touching your noses and mouths may reduce your risk of picking this up. You can also use disinfectants but be sure to follow the instructions for killing flu viruses which usually means leaving the disinfectant in place for a while (read the label) before wiping down with a damp cloth.

I just had the flu and found that really hot showers helped a bunch.
Lots of bedrest is needed as well

Seems like the doctor has given her the proper medicine it just takes a while to get over the flu it can really run your body down. antibotics can make you sick at your stomach. Just let her know you are there for her and do what ever you can to make her comfortable, I am a mother and just knowing my child loves me and is there for me is the best medicine in the world. Good Luck and God Bless I pray that your mother gets well soon.

In addition to all that everyone else has said, I'd say she needs to call the doctor and let hm/her know she can't take the tamilflu.
