Does the flu shot protect from the stomach flu? And what are side effects? |
I got a flu shot when I was at the doctor's today. I have a fear of vomiting, so my mom suggested I get the shot to ward off the stomach flu. Does it really vaccinate against that flu or just the cold-like flu?.. And is it possible to feel nauseous or vomit from the flu shot? Also, what are the chances of me getting the whole flu and the shot not working? A lot of people are complaining.. I'm worried if I made a mistake.. I have a fear of vomiting, so I'm deathly afraid. I'd much rather have a bad cold than vomit. The flu shot protects against several strains of influenza, which is not the same as the "stomach flu", which is generally actually food poisoning or viral gastroenteritis. Getting the flu would be a lot worse than vomiting, so you did the right thing. Flu shots are a waste of time. And they only protect against one strain. A lot of people end up getting sick anyway. no it does not. i am a nirse so i know. ya see the flu s hot only protects against the flu and i sawa on the news that it omly protects against HALF of your chances to get the regular flu. if your stomach gets upset easily i would take alot of procaution and wash your hands and button your coat and not eat to much junk food. this should minimize your risk of getting the stomach flu. if u do get it u will have to take atleast a week off of school and they may have to do a blood test at the hospital. with your medicine that the y will give u at the hospital you MUST have food with it. if u don;t take food with the medicine ou will vomit. when u get the flu you will have a sore throat and a stuffy nose and you will feel achy especially in your legs. hope this information helps and if u have any other questions e-mail me at mariadancegirl@yahoo.com! ps happy valentines day!! for me to answer this question i need to sit down and have a talk with you. I"ll get back to you next week when i have more time. No....Stomach virus (gastroenteritis, norovirus, rotovirus, ect.) DO NOT have a vaccine at this time. The only way to lessen your chances of contracting them is frequent hand washing and good hygiene. |
