Since my 2 year old had his flu shot, will he avoid getting the flu his dad has right now?

My husband is VERY sick with the flu right now (on day 3 of this mess). I have kept him banished to the bedroom and have Lysol'ed every surface of our house. I just don't want my 2 year old to catch this. But he did have his flu shot, so is he immune to the germs? Or do I still need to keep my hubby quarantined and continue with the neurotic Lysoling?

You should still keep him quarantined because there's no guarantee that the flu your husband has is one of the strains in the flu shot. And honestly, I haven't found the shot to be effective anyway. My mom always gets her flu shot and she always gets the flu. I never get the shot (I'm allergic) and I never catch the flu.. Hmm....interesting.

Depending on the strain of flu. Many times the flu shots are from the strain of the previous year. This year has a new strain.

That depends on if your husband has the same strain of the flu that your son was vaccinated for. There are many different mutations of the flu so it's possible that he could still get it. Don't Lysol everything and make yourself go crazy. While the flu can be dangerous children need to build up an immunity to disease or they'll just get very sick later on in life. Try letting him get sick and fight off the infection. Most people don't understand this and go overboard with sanitizer these days. It's not necessarily a good thing. One can be safe and one can be too safe.

He may get a light case of the FLU

hopefully not, but play it safe by not exposing him FULL ON!

The flu shot doesn't cover much, so it is still likely your child will get the flu from your husband. Sounds like you are using all the right precautions - I assume you include not letting your 2 y o eat off of the same utensils or drink out of the same glass as you or your husband. The is the most likely way that families share germs.

You can boost your child's immune system by adding some Vit C to his day. Also, Olive Leaf Extract is a good immune booster. Make sure the child doesn't get any refined sugars, as they are immune suppressants and will make him more susceptible to the flu virus.

Here is an interesting article about the flu shot - and it's questionable effectiveness for even the 1 - 3 of 100s of flu strains it MAY cover:

You might also want to check out the ingredients in the flu shot. Many of them still contain mercury, have aluminum, MSG and other things which will suppress your child's immune system not build it up.
