Flu in pregnancy?

I feel terrible - I am 24 wks pregnant and I feel like my head is going to explode - my nose is stuffed up and I have a horrible cough. What can i take? - will this illness harm my baby?

Your baby will be fine although it is scary and uncomfortable to be ill during pregnancy. The best thing for you is to run a humidifier in the home to keep moisture in the air. Either a humidifier or a vaporizer will help. They usually run anywhere from $14-60 depending on the size you want. You can also sit in the bathroom while running the shower for steam. Breathe this in several times a day to loosen congestion.
Saline nose spray or nasal wash, while uncomfortable, can loosen mucus in the nose so you can blow it out. Saline nose spray/wash is basically salt water. It is better to purchase the saline nose spray rather than attempt to make your own.
Drink decaf tea such as Celestial Seasonings Peppermint or any brand you prefer. Drinking liquids will keep mucus thin and moving. Get as much rest as possible and take care of yourself. If need be, call your OB-GYN for advice if you do not start feeling better or you need to take a decongestant.

Take plain Robitussin for the congestion, Tylenol for aches, and if you still feel so crappy beginning of next week, call your Dr. Won't hurt your baby. Drink plenty of fluids.
