Do you think a cure will be found within the next 20 years for viruses (flu, HIV, etc)?

Devils_i: I've seen it. Chilling.

Well, it looks like most people are skeptical about this, as I am. Bummer! :)

I think it's more likely that they'll just find a way for you to live with it so they can keep taking ur money for the medicine.

no

I hope so

why? did you contract the virus? lol

Nope...to much money in the treatment.

no i don't think so...it'll just keep mutating

ya........but by then there will probably be a new kind of disease that we'll be battling with

Yes there will be! ~I say optimistically...
Im hoping to cure cancer one day =]
It WILL happen, just be optimistic.

probably, but for every cure that is found, there will probably be another devastating disease concocted by the government....

If we try, may be!!!!!

Yep. Between nanotech and genetic engineering it'll come.

Also, HIV has the potential to become its own cure in one of two ways:
1) Just as William Gibson predicted, there could be a strain of the virus that both beats out other strains and is mostly harmless to humans. This is possible because of how easily viruses mutate, and there are whispers from some people in drug companies that it may have already happened

2) The virus will just naturally get weaker over time... it's too lethal right now, it doesnt work for evolution of the virus itself. The best virus, from a survival of the fittest standpoint, would be one that goes completely unnoticed because it would be spread more.
And this is DEFINITELY happening, HIV viruses from Africa where it's a huge rampant problem are actually way WEAKER than North Americain versions of HIV.

It wouldn't matter if a cure for these type of diseases/viral infections were ever discovered [if they haven't been already]
there is much more money to be made from continuous treatment than there is in curing the problem and thats a sad fact of life

watch the movie "The Constant Gardener", it has insight to your question.

No, there is too little money in a cure.
