Is it true that you can't treat the flu on your own and that even if you do chances of it coming back are high

I was told by the doctor since the flu is a virus there is nothing to do but take stuff for the symptoms. Antibiotics won't help. The doctor told me to get plenty of rest, keep yourself hydrated with Gatorade, ginger ale, water. If you feel up to eat chicken broth with some crackers. Aspirin for your fever aches and pains. Relapsing can occur by not giving your body enough time to recuperate. I was told the flu that is going around now last 4 to 7 days.

well all the flu shot really is, is a low dose of the flu thats why you get a fever after word your bodies immune system just learns to fight it off.

Does the flu ever leave???

I am convinced it is stalking me. I am forced to carry little packs of tissues constantly in my handbag and have a heavy stock of sudafed and vix.

I can't live like this!!!

No.........If you fever and or the vomiting are severe and you can not control the fever with Tylenol the calling your doctor is needed. Vomiting more then two three times a day puts you at risk for dehydrating - again call our doctor.

Most viral infections like the flu or the common cold just have to work through on their own. Since it's an RNA virus, it can mutate very quickly - this is why immunizations for flu sometimes don't work. You can catch the flu again if you are infected with a different strain. If you come in contact with the same strain as you had before, you won't catch it again because your body has created defenses against it.
