Anything OTC that will help prevent catching the flu?

My husband woke up at 5 this morning vomiting and had diarrhea. Now he's really dizzy and can't get out of bed. We've both been up since then so I'm pretty run down. I have a 20 month old daughter and a 2 month old son that I have to take care of so resting while they're up is out of the question. Also, the 2 month old co-sleeps with us. I'm afraid that the 2 of us are going to catch this now that we were sleeping in the same bed last night. We all had the flu shot (except the baby) and that hasn't seemed to help us fight anything off this year. Does anyone know of any immune system boosters that might help prevent this or make it not so bad if we catch it?

Influenza is a respiratory infection and your husband is presenting with intestinal symptoms. He doesn't have flu.

He may have either a viral or bacterial gastroenteritis. I think it's important that you isolate him from the rest of the family even if you think it's too late. Don't make contact with his oral secretions or vomit.

It looks like you're going to have your hands full for a while. Everyone should get as much rest as possible, wash hands frequently and eat well. I don't believe that you should consider supplements for the kids due to their ages other than the vitamins they normally take. Your husband can remain on clear liquids until his vomiting and diarrhea have stopped for 24 hours, then soft, bland foods for another 24.
